one or both of your firewalls (and or routers) is probably blocking port 3389. you MUST allow access on that port to get remote assistance working

so you don't have any other firewall software installed? and you don't have a router (you just plug right into your modem? what make and model is the modem if you can find out?)

give this a read for the windows firewall http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555179

well that was easy...absolutely no firewall on that modem....it's probably the windows firewall on your end....your friend will need to check his firewall(s) as well

I know I'm late to the party but the easiest way to remote connection is crossloop...get it here...both of you launch crossloop...if you want to control his computer ...he would click on share tab and give you the 12 digit number...you click on access...then enter the number he gave you ...both of you click on connect he will get a small window saying your trying to connect and he clicks on allow....and walaa..in about 15 seconds you will be looking at his desktop and you can take over just like your sitting at the computer
