I've been through the steps for malware and ad-ware on the site, and I believe that smitfraud may only be a part of my problem. I got hit with what seemed to be large shipment of malware/ad-ware last night, and I've been working on it all day today with some of the methods for people with similar problems, but I still have popups. However I have defeated the desktop helper. You guys are amazing. Anyways down to business. Here is my log:

Get a copy of winsockxpfix.exe before you do anything. This is just a safety
item in case you can't get on the internet afterwards. You don't need to run it unless that happens to you. You just run it and
things should work OK after it reboots your system.

http://www.iup.edu/h...net/winfix.shtm

Also download and install ccleaner.exe from http://www.ccleaner.com. Don't let
it clean anything yet.

Start then right click on My Computer and press Manage. In the new window
Service and Applications then Services. In the right pane scroll down and find
the System Startup Service. Double click on it and and then set the Start Type
to Disabled. Then OK.

Now shutdown and reboot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when you see the PC
maker's logo.
Keep tapping until it tells you it is going to Safe Mode or you see the Safe
Mode menu. Select the top option.

Run HijackThis and just do a Scan only. Check then Fix
Checked the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\DOCUME~1\Admin\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = file://C:\DOCUME~1\Admin\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = file://C:\DOCUME~1\Admin\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O2 - BHO: BolgerObj Class - {302A3240-4805-4a34-97D7-1645A0B08410} - C:\WINDOWS\Bolger.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {91BA1C5D-D3CA-8B39-CD0E-DFC81F887CB1} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\gkmcmr.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rjlmnt] c:\windows\system32\ievekr.exe
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Download with &DAP - C:\PROGRA~1\DAP\dapextie.htm
O8 - Extra context menu item: Download &all with DAP - C:\PROGRA~1\DAP\dapextie2.htm
O9 - Extra button: Run DAP - {669695BC-A811-4A9D-8CDF-BA8C795F261C} - C:\PROGRA~1\DAP\DAP.EXE (file missing)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.windupdates.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.windupdates.com (HKLM)
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Wait 60 seconds and repeat the scan. Did any of the above come back? IF so
leave HijackThis up and right click on the clock and select Task Manager. Then
Processes. Find Explorer.exe, right click on it and select End Process. The
desktop will disappear but HijackThis should still be there. IF you don't see
it switch to Applications in Task Manager and highlight it there then press
Switch To or just double click on it. Check and Fix Checked the above again.
Restart Explorer by Task Manager, File, New Task(Run), explorer.exe, OK.

Now run ccleaner.exe. On the first page, uncheck everything but the two lines
that have the word Temporary in them then Run Cleaner.

Reboot into normal mode and run another HijackThis log and post it. Let's
see how we did.

It looks like we almost got it all. The only thing that is visibly affecting me now, are pop ups with the title aurora on the bar. Heres the log.

Looks like you only have the one entry left but he's probably one of these that changes his name each time you look at him. This is is current nentry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nbdrfin] c:\windows\system32\fruxkv.exe

Let's check everything that is not a bad guy and then Add To Ignore List.

Now when you do a Scan you should see only the bad guy:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nbdrfin] c:\windows\system32\fruxkv.exe

You can try to stop him using Task Manager (right click on the clock and select Task Manager then Processes then highlight fruxkv.exe (or whatever he calls himself) and then End Process. If it can't stop him then go back to Safe Mode and try again. Then Check /Fix Checked anything that shows up in HijackThis.

Wait 60 seconds and repeat the scan. Did anything come back? IF so
leave HijackThis up and right click on the clock and select Task Manager. Then

Reboot and run another scan. If it is still there and you have a fast link try mwav.exe from:

http://www.spywarein...wnload/mwav.exe

Download it (~10Meg) and open it. It will install itself and then offer to run. Let it run and take a nap of go to a movie. This is the world's slowest program. Takes hours to run.

I tried both things, and we still have aurora. (even in firefox, crafty little bug)
I'll post my Hijack This Log minus the objects we have ignored for reasons of simplicity. If you wish otherwise just let me know. Also. I noticed a few scans ago Nail.exe started showing up again. I've gotten rid of it a couple of times but it comes back after a day or so's time. Heres the lof (Minus ignored)

See if you can stop the service again:

Start then right click on My Computer and press Manage. In the new window
Service and Applications then Services. In the right pane scroll down and find
the System Startup Service. Double click on it and Then STOP the service and then set the Start Type
to Disabled. Then OK.

Then get Advanced Process Manipulator from DiamondCS.

http://www.diamondcs...ex.php?page=apm

and see if you can use it to close our friend: c:\windows\system32\sdvchsd.exe

and any processes that may have TODO in their name.

Then run findit:

http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443

Delete anything it finds with Pocket Killbox.

Alright. I found it all. For future reference for you to help other users. The main aurora file in the windows/system32 file will have a jumbled name as usual that may be different than the process that is running, but it gives itself away with the aurora icon next to it.

Took a bit of work to get rid of it all. Had to boot in safe mode, keep explorer off, and get rid of nail.exe svcproc.exe and the aurora file, plus Drpmon.dll, and the aurora registry in Regedit, all with explorer closed. Here is the final log. I think we are in the clear.

Haha. Cant get a log. All it says with the usual ignored is

No Suspicious Items Found!

Thats the way it ought to be.

Thanks again for all of your help!
