Hi again, I couldn't find my first post here so I did the New Topic Thing again.

This time there were no error messages and the log was saved to a notepad. ;) Here it is:

Hope you can tell something from this, :tazz:

Now, I did want to tell you that I downloaded and ran (as far as I can figure out) "CWShredder," but I got no window saying I completed it and no "fix" button. So maybe I didn't really run it even after pushing the "Run button" I was prompted to push?? Blessings and many thanks for being there: Chuck521

Hi Chuck521, and welcome to Geeks To Go!
  • You are running HijackThis from its zipped archive; please create a new folder for it and unzip the program into it. It is very important you do this before anything else!
  • Please set your system to show
all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

  • Go to Add/Remove programs and remove
    VBouncer
  • Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check mark next to the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    O2 - BHO: IE Update Class - {5B4AB8E2-6DC5-477A-B637-BF3C1A2E5993} - C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\sysupd.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Nsv] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc\nsvsvc.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [picsvr] C:\WINDOWS\system32\picsvr\picsvr.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Desktop Search] C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\desktop.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ffis] C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\ffisearch.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VBouncer] C:\PROGRA~1\VBouncer\VirtualBouncer.exe
    O4 - Startup: MyWebSearch Email Plugin.lnk = C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSOEMON.EXE
    O4 - Global Startup: MyWebSearch Email Plugin.lnk = C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSOEMON.EXE
    O18 - Filter: text/html - {950238FB-C706-4791-8674-4D429F85897E} - C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\mfiltis.dll
    O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
  • Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc\nsvsvc.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\picsvr\picsvr.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\desktop.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\ffisearch.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\VBouncer\VirtualBouncer.exe
    O4 - Startup: MyWebSearch Email Plugin.lnk = C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSOEMON.EXE
    O4 - Global Startup: MyWebSearch Email Plugin.lnk = C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSOEMON.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\mfiltis.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.
Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

Hi Don,

Fantastic!!! for the first time since last Sat. I was able to log onto AOL again without going through Netscape! My AOL program had been freezing up as soon as I brought it up and clicked on anything on it. Now it's back to normal. Isearch is gone from the lower right hand corner of my screen without my having to use the windows task manager to end it, and about the only things remaining that I KNOW I'd like to see gone are Aurora's pop up adds and little question mark.

I took HiJackThis (the icon portion) out of the unzipped files and placed it in a file ["Computer stuff] in My Documents. I hope that was what you meant I should do. I ran it and "fixed" all that you told me to fix. When deleting files in the "safe mode" (I had already deleted "My Web Search" and Virtual Bouncer from my program files after searching for anything in there that was Created on 17 April 05) I think there were a couple of items from HiJackThis that you might have put in by mistake - I couldn't find anything under "C:" that started with 'PROGRA~' or O4. Also, there was no ".exe" after the "nsvsvc" icon which resembled a TV or PC screen and the same with "picsvr," but I deleted them anyway as I was pretty sure that's what I was supposed to do. No doubt they are still in the recycle bin if I wasn't supposed to do so.

Here is the latest HijackThis log file:

Hi again Don,

I searched with the start button for "Aurora" and they gave me the location of Aurora.exe (etc) in the file C:\Windows\Prefetch I went into safe mode went in there and removed Aurora.exe to the recycle bin. It's only been a short time. I went to Paypal to give a donation for your beautiful work, and am now awaiting a reply from them as to why I need to give them a second credit card number when they readily tell me that my original one is in their files. I don't want to give them my family credit card numbers, but only the one debit/credit card number from my private bank account. When they reply to my question, if they allow me to use my personal debit/credit Mastercard from Key Bank, that will still be the easiest way to make a donation, I expect. Things are so far looking pretty good PCwise - If that Aurora delete solves the Aurora pop-ups, that is. I ran the free scan from Pandasoftware, and it said I had 150 infections (most of them in one of my AOL programs (but I couldn't figure out which one. I've been putting the disk back in and installing several different times since Saturday. Not sure what to do about that. Any suggestions? Blessings - Chuck

Hi Chuck521, Thank you for the kind word,
Lets run through this one more time
  • Please set your system to show
all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

  • Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check mark next to the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

    O2 - BHO: IE Update Class - {5B4AB8E2-6DC5-477A-B637-BF3C1A2E5993} - C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\sysupd.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Desktop Search] C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\desktop.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ffis] C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\ffisearch.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [szyowrv] c:\windows\system32\mldmakc.exe
    O18 - Filter: text/html - {950238FB-C706-4791-8674-4D429F85897E} - C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\mfiltis.dll

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

  • Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

    C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\desktop.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\ffisearch.exe
    c:\windows\system32\mldmakc.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\mfiltis.dll

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.
Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

Also could you a scan with Active scan again, copy and paste back what it finds please

Hi Don,

Wanted to tell you about C:Windows\isrvs\ . . . That's a crazy place. I found none of the items you expected me to find there (at least not by those names). There was an icon of two gearslabelled "msdbhk.d11" It had been created back in 04 but since I couldn't find any of those you wanted me to find I tried to open it to see what it was. It brought AOL on line with a disconnection notice (yes, I was in the Safe mode). I left that one alone. There was one named "edmond" that looked like a TV or Computer Screen for an icon (which I had seen as an exe file with one of the files I deleted earlier under your direction). I couldn't find out what that was and it also was created in 04 so I left that alone to. There was an Isearch text file that I sent to the recycle bin. and that left a folder of icons. I opened the folder and there were three items, two had shady sounding spyware names and I deleted them. The third said Thumbs. It wasn't an icon. When I checked its properties it said it had just been created as I was sitting there. I sent it to the recycle bin.

On the fixes: one was not there: no 04 - HKLM\..\Run: [szyowrv] [etc] .

Below is the latest HijackThis log, the Active scan will take a long time and I'll put it on later. Blessings - Chuck

Hi Don,

I couldn't get back to the Active Scan. I went there on a link that was part of one of your people's advice to someone else - When I went back to the Website for Pandasoftware, I didn't find any way to get the free scan. Can you give me the link? Blessings - Chuck

Hi again, Don,

Haven't yet heard from Paypal who said they'd "get back to me within three days," so I'm still waiting.

I just read Plumbob's input under "similar problems" section. It made me want to rush back to that isrv file and delete "edmond" immediately, but I'll wait to hear what you have to say. I thought the "Created" date in 'Properties" was the date it was placed on my PC. Isn't that so? I don't remember the exact date that properties said edmond had been created, but it was back in 2004 sometime.
Blessings - Chuck

(Incidentally, I'm not a religious case or anything - I've just put 30 years of sobriety together one day at a time through staying very close to AA. That keeps me feeling like spreading around all the blessings I can wherever I go. :tazz: )

Chuck
Go ahead and delete edmond

Need to have a look at something here

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Incidentally, I'm not a religious case or anything - I've just put 30 years of sobriety together one day at a time through staying very close to AA. That keeps me feeling like spreading around all the blessings I can wherever I go

One day at a time, You should be very proud !!

Hi Don,

Did as I was told, got rid of edmond, which only left one "something" in "isrv" plus an empty icon folder. Then clicked on the top link you provided me, and got 12mfix saved to my desktop. the icon only said 12mfix (no '.exe') I double clicked it. It didn't say install, it said run. I clicked on run and then got to install. I got the newly created folder on my desktop and opened it. There was no 12mfix.bat in the folder. There was a 12mfix in there that was palely labelled MS DOS Batch file. I opened that and there was a white on black display that didn't seem to be showing anywhere to type a 1, so I closed that. The complete files were:

backregs - folder

direct - text document

12mfix - window with gear in it - the MS DOS Batch file 8 kb

Ntrights - another window that looked like an '.exe'

readme - text file

Reg DACL - Managere for Registry DACLs Frank Heyne Software with key and padlock icon

strings - another '.exe' type empty window

fix autont.html with an AOL looking icon (pyramid) same color labelled internet shortcut

locate - exe type window labelled MS DOS application

Process - Command line process utility - another window exe type icon

Reboot - colorful flag icon - Reboot utility

second - looked identical to 12mfix above MS DOS Batch file 8kb

zip - empty window icon

That's all that was in there Don. Blessings - Chuck

Hi, he said sheepishly . . .

I went back and read the small print after running the initial download of 12mfix. It told me to go back and redo the download if 12mfix.bat wasn't to be found, I will now do that. :tazz: Blessings - C.

Editted: Went back, tried downloads from both links several times each. Could not get a folder with 12mfix.bat in it. Que Lastima, Lo siento mucho (spanish for Too bad, so very sorry ;) ) More Blessings - C.

Hi again, Don -

Wanted to tell you about a process in my Windows Task Manager. When I was trying to get rid of "isearch" on my own, I would go to the task manager, see "Desktop search" running (and usually see a program named AdDestroyer or some such title running along with it). I could get the "isearch" off my desktop by ending the task of Desktop Search. As I learned a little more through working with the AOL rep who ordered me to go the the Processes section to get rid of WAOL.exe when I was uploading a new copy of AOL, I tried ending the process of Desktop Search on the Process page and it worked (but only until I rebooted). When I tied the AdDestroyer to a process on the Process page entitled "explorer.exe" I also decided it would be a good idea to end that process also. So I tried and it froze up my computer to the point where I had to pull the plug in order to turn it off.

Now, since things seemed to be back to normal, I went there again and thought that maybe I could now end that process. I tried again to end the process "explorer.exe" and the same thing happened again. Had to pull the plug to even turn off the PC. Maybe this is the way it ouught to be, but I'm doubting it. Just thought it was worth sharing with you since you seem to still be concerned over the HiJackThis logs. Blessings - Chuck PS: please scroll to below

I think I might helped screw up 'bookie's' (posted for isearch help on April 20 and posted again last night) chances of getting help by posting a message on his thread. I knew how he was feeling and only wanted to give him hope while he was waiting for help. Since he had already written a "bump" to his HJT log I didn't thing it would hurt. But maybe it did, huh? More Blessings and apologies for breaking the rules. - :tazz: Chuck
