Hi, I have been battling spyware problems on my laptop, and I have deleted malware files using anti-spyware programs like "Spyware terminator" and hijackthis.

However, Somehow I must have deleted a couple of necessary Windows XP files, and now the add/remove feature and the full shutdown feature (on shutdown it stops at the Windows blue screen without finishing) do not work. The rest of XP mostly works fine, and it boots up well. I do not have my Windows XP disc, as I am traveling for a month. Is there a way to get these XP files back? To find which are actually missing?

System restore does not work either. It hangs up.


I may also still have some spyware on it, but I deleted some I know.... Thanks JoeF

One can really cause more issues than fixes using malware removal tools without enough knowledge. Let's make sure the malware side of things is all taken care of. I suggest you go to the Malware Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post a HiJackThis Log in THAT forum. If you are unable to run and/or post a HJT log, then post that in your initial post in the topic you create in that forum.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
