Ok I have a Acer Aspire 3680. Its not with me at the time, so I can no tell you what LAN card is in it.
However, I just want to use the lan card as a com port. I work at a GM Dealer. To program controlers in car, we use a web ap. Ok here is the dumb part. "and its the way GM set it up"

Pc use's com port connected to cable that switches into a RS232 female connection. To connect my programing interface. I use a standerd cat 5 cable, between the two.

My acer hase no 9 pin com port so, What I would like to do is use the WiFi card as my internet connection and my Wired LAN as the com port. So all I have to do, to hook up the programing interface is connect the cat 5 between them.

Ok what GM's Tec [bleep]. is telling me to do. Is to take and buy a usb to DB9 "com port" then DB9 to female LAN. This Does not seem correct. I have looked for a while can not find info on what I want to do. Is it possible? and can I do it with what I got? Like I said I work for GM so Im a big do it your self kind of guy, AKA poor:) Just some links would be nice. Thank's for anyone who spends time on this.

There is another option if you want to set up your computer like a regular pc com port. (It is a bit cheaper)
You can purchase a usb to com cable and then if you need an femail connection get a 9 Pin Serial Gender Changer .
Here is a link thas has both.
