So recently my laptop (Thinkpad T40) started to crap out. I checked with some of my friends and tinkered with it myself using a few diag tools. It freezes up or doesn't boot up at the oddest time, it's inconsistent on when it freezes but it usually happens when I bump into the area where the hard drive is.

So I opened it up and checked it. Hitachi Travelstar 60GB ATA/IDE. I decided to go to Bestbuy and find a replacement harddrive after I backed up my data on an external, but the closest thing I could find was a Hitachi 120GB PATA. Are they compatible?

Yes. ATA/IDE and PATA are one and the same.
