I bought a new system with windows vista on it but i want to switch my hdd (Window xp) in my old system to the new one...if i do this, which OS (XP or Vista) is going to be running on my new system? thanks

Howdy:

Are you going to keep both hdd's in the new system?

If so, it will all depend on which one you jumper as the master and which as the slave.

Secondly, it will also depend on whether your new system uses a SATA hdd or IDE as well as the connection on the old system.

Next, the XP hdd won't run at all as nothing in the Registry will match what is in the new system. You will have to run a "repair" at the very least and probably a full install of XP.

Lastly, if your XP cd is branded (Dell, HP, etc or OEM, then you won't even be able to use the XP cd. It either will fail to load or, you will be violating the Microsoft EULA.
