help on loading my ethernet driver

ok so i whiped my hard disk clean and reinstalled windows 98. Install went fine but when i tried to log onto the net i couldn't. I have a Gatway 2wire 2701 router with att service and my ethernet card is a compaq pci 10/100 wol. I have downloaded the driver for it on my laptop and burned it to disk and tryed to install it on the desk top but this aint working. I have no idea what to do and i have been workin on this 4 the last 3 days. please help if you can

If it's an exe file you will need to run the executable. It will install some files in a folder. It may automatically begin installing after that, or it may begin the installation after a reboot. If it doesn't' then go into the Control Panel, Install New Hardware and start the installation for a network adapter. When it asks for the folder where the files are, browse to the one the exe installed. If it asks for the windows files, which it will, browse to the win98 folder on the disk or to Windows, Options, Cabs on your hard drive.
