Theres a million and one topics on the internet about the three red rings of death. However I only have 1 red ring. Whenever I turn on my xbox i get this system error that says contact microsoft. Then at the bottom it says E65. Well after some searching I found that this error is related to the DVD drive.

My question is what can I do to fix this? Is there a way to reset something inside the system? Im totally clueless and I just got this thing for christmas. I also just got Assassin's Creed and Im looking forward to playing. Any help you guys can give me is greatly appreciated.

What you are looking at doing is contacting MS. They will send you a box with a label. You will drop your Xbox in and a month later you should get a new system.

Indeed.

But I share my sympathies for you, it is not a quick process. =(

Friend of mine just went through this same process. Round trip shipping and repair took 8 weeks. :)

Warranty from where you bought it? :) I got 3 red rings but Gamestop gave me a year warranty on it and it was just under a year old. Round trip to nearest Gamestop and back: 30 min (brand new 360, newer build too with HDMI). Can't stress enough to buy warranty from where you buy the console. 360's tend to die often and replacing through microsoft is a pain in the [bleep]. Warranty money, if any, is well worth it I think.

Off Topic:
Warranties are for people who don't know how to properly use/care for their electronics.

If there really was a problem with the hardware, it would have shown up during the first week.

Now, i'm not saying that warranties are useless, just that better care can save us all a few hundred bucks.

In My Opinion.

On Topic:

My friend just sent in his Xbox and it got returned in a week.

I think it depends on the severity of the problem.

If i'm not mistaken, the full THREE RING OF DEATH is related to a fatal motherboard issue where the board's soldering actually melts and causes a short.

You a) have not purchased enough hardware b) have probably never worked in a factory.

Close to 1/3 of all 360s shipped get sent back. Those numbers are outrageous. Don't even get me started on Rock Band and my fourth drum pedal (which is now personally modified to actually work).

Anyways, what I am getting at if you have not had hardware die on your from using it in it's designed way then you are very lucky. I personally I have got a total of 2 DOA sticks of RAM and one Motherboard.

At work in the last 6 months we have RMAed a Mybook World Edition and an internal 500GB WD drive these drives were less than a year old.

None of the things listed above abused in any way.
