Ok, installed the file. It asked for my Windows 98 CD-ROM. I put it in. Then a box popped up that said "The file secur32.dll on Windows 98 CD-ROM cannot be found". I clicked ok, nothing..same box was still there. I clicked it over and over again and the box would not go away. CD drive was operating fine. Finally just clicked cancel and that was that. By the way, on my disc it does say Windows 98 SE but my comp says Windows 98, no SE.

hmmm... that's a real windows file....should have been found.....that said, with win98se, you didn't need that file, so it doesn't matter.

OK, well, let's try to reinstall the tcpip stack

We need two things, the windows 98 disk (again) and the driver files for your network card

before doing that...I'd still be more comfortable if that ping command worked.

start > run
command
enter

at the prompt, type
cd c:\
then
cd c:\windows\system

ping www.google.com

Anything?

A dumb question for you now......Are the driver files for the network card listed on my comp or am I supposed to have another disc for that?

Ok, let me see if I have it...I did the ping thing and keep trying to figure out how to copy it over to here but can't do it. Is it supposed to only paste a link up for you to look at? A link will paste but the info will not.

OK, so your connection is OK--in that it does not drop data....just that stall....

Well, when you installed the computer last with restore....you didn;t install a driver for the Network interface card? If not, my guess is that it was integrated with windows--which is not out of the realm of possibility.

I don;t think you ever mentioned the computer type....and model
