i live at home and we currently have hughesnet satellite internet. my mother and stepfather both have laptops, as do i. well when they are on the internet, browsing, it runs fine, fast download, uploads everything. however, they have noticed that when i come home and get online, the internet slows almost to a halt. is there something on my computer that is causing this to happen? and if so, what can i do?

thanks

Common causes are usage of peer to peer software (such as but not limited to Limewire, Napster, Bearshare, etc) or the system is so heavily infected with spyware that's sending so much data back to its owners. However remember that if you do more downloading (from websites) or heavier surfing, then there's only so much bandwidth to go round and eventually all the systems will slow internet-wise.

Please be patient as the malware removal experts are extremely busy and it may take a day or three for them to get to you.
