Hey everyone, I've had this virus/worm/annoyance for awhile. I've seen a few people have some thing resolved here. So I thought I'd give it a shot.

So it seems on my own I get further than most people with atleast making this virus lay dormant. I've been using SDfix in safe mode which usually gives me about 6 hours of peace and quiet from the virus before it comes back. So to make this easier on all of you I'll post a few things for you.

Hello Talex,

Before we proceed to clean your computer from malware, let's go over some points that will help both me and you, and prevent causing damage to your computer:
  • Please don't be afraid to ask questions! :) No question is considered dumb here. It's better to be safe than sorry!
  • Please follow the steps exactly in the same order posted. If you can't perform a certain step, or you're unsure on what to do, please stop and let me know.
  • NEVER fix anything in HijackThis or other programs on your own! This can be very dangerous and cause harm to your system. If you witness a certain entry or program you're unsure about, please don't hesitate to ask! :)

Step1 : Correcting entries with HijackThis

Please re-open HijackThis and click Scan. Put a check next to the following entries presented in the window: (Do NOT click Fix yet!)

O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe - This entry is optional. Read more about it below.
O21 - SSODL: hjoqor - {ADCA7DAF-6313-482B-BF02-AEDAEC413079} - C:\WINDOWS\hjoqor.dll
O21 - SSODL: xcvwer - {5AE5288F-92EA-4A6C-B0A5-25CC8D37270A} - C:\WINDOWS\xcvwer.dll (file missing)



PowerReg Scheduler - PowerReg is not considered 'traditional' spyware, but some hardware and software makers use it as a registration reminder. Read more about it here. If you choose to remove it, just put a check next to the entry marked in blue and proceed.

Now, close all other windows but HijackThis, including Explorer windows (folders) and this window, and click Fix. Note: It is vital you close all other windows, otherwise the fix will not succeed.

Step2 : Deleting files in Safe Mode & running SmitFraudFix

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, navigate to the following folder, and delete the files marked in bold:C:\WINDOWS\hjoqor.dll C:\WINDOWS\xcvwer.dll (if present).

Now, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe, in the directory you have placed it in.

Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please include the SmitFraudFix log, along with a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Hey, last night I did another few things to try and remove it and it seems to have worked. If there's any more problems with people having this virus which seems to be common I seem to have found a way to delete it perminantly. First I did a smitfraud scan in normal mode. After that I went into safe mode and did and used SmitFrauds clean feature. When that was completed I ran SDfix, which takes about 7 minutes, then it forces a restart. After it restarts SDfix does some more working on your boot, then windows loaded normally. I then downloaded the most recent updates for SuperAntiSpyware and ran a quick scan. It must have oicked up my problem because I usually am safe from the virus for about 5-6 hours after an SDfix scan before it comes back.
