I'm thinking about a new Vostro for my wife. For a $200 difference I can updgrade to a Core 2 Duo and DVD R/W drive. Is it worth it? I'm thinking yes...

personally i think it is a no brainer, Core 2 Duo is the better processor by far, and its dual core!
