My old CD-ROM was not working - had an ! point on device driver and would not open. Since it was 3 years old I went and bought a new CD-RW and installed it. I am having problems when booting. I get the msg Device Driver not found CDROM001. I think the problem is either with my AUTOBAT.exe or CONFIG.sys file. I tried reintsalling the old driver and updating those files as directed but that did not help. I am guessing this was my problem all along and I didn't need a new CD-RW what do I do now?

AUTOBATCH.exe looks like this

c:\windows\command\mscdex.exe /D:cdrom001 /M:12

Config.sys looks like this

Device=C:\CDROM\CDROMDRV.SYS /CDROM001 > nul

How do I know what these are suppose to be set at? Also when I look at device manger the CD-ROM isn't even listed? When installing the new MADDOG 52X- CD_RW it stated to delete all the devices under CD-ROM but I think I may have deleted the CD-ROM. Can it get any worse? <_<

Welcome ddmcw <_<

Try changing those lines to remarks, by adding "REM " before the text (i.e. REM c:\windows\command\mscdex.exe /D:cdrom001 /M:12). See if that helps. Those lines aren't needed with Windows 98.

Thank you for the advice. I updated AUTOBAT.EXE and commented out the line as you suggested. I no longer receive that error message however when I look under device manger the CD-ROM has an ! point and states Device Status - this device is either not present, not working or does not have all the drivers installed. It is also my old driver MITSUMI CD-ROM contoller with double speed. Because I kept getting this err msg I recently purchased the Mad Dog Multimedia 52x CD-RW Donimator, replacing the Mitsumi.

In the Quick Troubleshooting guide for Mad Dog it states to Boot in Safe Mode and remove the old drives. I did that earlier but that did not work either (that was before I removed that line of code out of Autobat.exe). What would you suggest is my next line of defense? Should I try it again now that Autobat has been updated? <_<

Did you also comment out the config.sys line? (REM Device=C:\CDROM\CDROMDRV.SYS /CDROM001 > nul) If not, please do so.

If that's done and it still shows an error, try uninstalling the CD-ROM drive from the device manager, and then rebooting. The hardware wizard should detect the new drive, and install the drivers.

<_< Ok, Thanks again for the advice. I commented out the statement in Config.sys and rebooted. The CD-Rom was still in error. I Went in to Device Manager and deleted the CD-ROM. When I rebooted and looked into Device Manger no CD rom existed. If I try to use the "wizard" to install new hardware it doesn't recognize any. If I Manually do it I don't have the drivers for Mad Dog so therefore cannot install it. When I do to Mad Dod web site they do not have drivers for there CD-RWs. Any other help would be most appreciated.

This sounds like an IDE drive or Sata1 you will have to make it master or slave drive I know when I ha Sata and IDE CD rom Drives were not Sata only IDE then When Sata 2 and three came out it solved the Prob. now you need to run the cdrom on its own ribben it will set its own IRQ
