Hi, I have another computer which is a little better than this one, but a while back i guess i got a virus. I ran a scan and it was to late. It shut down my comp and when i started back up, it just got stuck at the win 98 loading screen. I ran a virus scan in ms dos and found a file called proc kill. I really need to be able to fix it without reformatting, but its been sitting for a month because i dont know what else to do. I can get in it in safe mode but thats about it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. <_<

Ok, that's good you can get into safe mode. Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results. <_<

Good work <_<. Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu). Be sure you're able to view hidden files and folders, and remove the following files in bold:

C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files\'anything altavista' Anything with the mention of altavista you need to delete. If you see one with a bunch numbers or scrambled letters, right-click on it, chooose properties, under the "Version" tab, see if says altavista anywhere. If it does, delete it!
C:\Program Files\Incredimail\ <-- This Folder
C:\Program Files\Dynamic Toolbar\ <-- This Folder

Next, please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Reboot your PC and see if you can boot in regular mode.

Bah, sorry im having lots of trouble getting this done. When safe mode starts i get the Illegal operation error, and then when i open a folder and try to open a file or do something it freezes. When i tried to delete some of those files it froze, then when i tried to fix the ones you told me to, it gave me some error about not enough room. I think its because im running it off of a floppy but if i try to move the file it freezes.

Looks like you have to resort to a a complete Windows reinstallation. See this guide:
