My wife stumbled onto a site that has overtaken our laptop. I have used Spybot S&D, Adaware, SpyKiller Pro, SpySweeper, and MS Antispyware but I still have the isearch engine as the default and I can't open sites that contain updates to the above programs. I use Firefox (she was on IE) and that's the only way I'm able to post here. IE cannot open any pages. Here's my logfile after running all of the above in safe mode. Thanks for any help.

A new development-- when I was trying unsuccessfully to do an update the FireFox browser sort of locked up and task manager wouldn't let me close it. I did a hard reset and went through the usual boot up stuff with Spy Sweeper and Spybot S&D but now I can't browse at all. Either the browser can't "find" the page or it tries to dial out using the modem even though I have a cable connection. Is this thing lost or do I have some hope yet?

Hi bookie,

I know I'm not supposed to post in your thread since I'm here getting help myself, but I just wanted to say there's more than hope. They know how to handle "isearch" here. Hang in there and someone will pick up on you soon. Blessings - Chuck521

Hi again bookie, I think together we've delayed help for you, but don't despair. I told the guy helping me and he has asked me to post the link to this thread on my thread. Then I'm sure he'll either get someone else from the staff here or come himself.

I went back and read the posting rules and it did say to be sure and not bump your first post (hijackThis log) with another post because the second post will indicate that a staff member is helping you.

So hang in there! Help is on the way. :tazz: Blessings - C.

Hi again bookie

Please for the moment disable Spybot, spysweeper and Microsoft Antispyware
  • Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check mark next to the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Nsv] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc\nsvsvc.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [picsvr] C:\WINDOWS\system32\picsvr\picsvr.exe
O15 - ProtocolDefaults: 'http' protocol is in Trusted Zone, should be Internet Zone (HKLM)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
  • Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc\
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\picsvr\

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.
Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

Also,
Please download FindQoologic from here:
http://forums.net-in...=post&id=134981
Save it to the desktop and run Find-Qoologic2.bat. This will generate a log file; please post the entire contents of the log file here to this post please

Wow. You're fast. You have me psyched (I know it's an old expression-- so am I) that we may yet get a handle on this thing. I am attaching a HJT log.
The link for qloogic didn't work but I copied it over from a different computer on a flash drive and tried to run it but nothing seemed to happen. Anyway Don, here's my log:

OK, I'm running it now. I'll try to be patient and let it do its thing. Hopefully I'll be back soon with the log.

Don, I've left qoologic run for a bit more than an hour now. Should it take this long or do you think somethings fouled up?

Sorry about that
Open the Qoologic folder
Do you see a text file (Activesetup components) inside it ? If so double click on it, it will open in notepad, copy and paste the contents of it back here please
