Hello, thank you, in advance, for your assistance. I may have already fixed the problem, but I don't know enough to know for sure.

My general system info is:
Win 2000, 5.0 2195 Service Pack 4, Intel Pent. MMX, CPU: 900Mhz, Memory:254MB

The computer is old, I know, but works fine on the net and email. I've meant to investigate if more RAM would help, but have never done it (looking for advice as to whether it would make a noticeable differenc). When I installed the Norton update about 6 months ago, it basically incapacitated the computer. I used it for a few weeks and then attempted to uninstall it. It partially uninstalled and gave me a message about being unable to fully uninstall. So, periodically, it will do an auto scan as it did Friday and these were the results:

I routinely run Ad-Aware (it was the older version, but since yesterday, I've removed the older version and downloaded/run the 2007 version) and (less routinely) run SpyBot. For several months, I've had NO anti-virus, which I know is a no-no, but have been busy and put it off....unfortunately, just like my backups. I'm ready to get back on the wagon and backup regularly since all of my photos are on this computer and I would be devastated if they were lost.

I go to the same sites and rarely use others, but I've recently determined that my husband has been going to sites that are potentially the culprits.

I found this thread and followed all of the directions except as noted (**):
http://www.geekstogo...-Log-t2852.html

**I could not get my computer to go into SAFE mode before running AVG anti-spyware. I tried a half dozen times and it just continued to boot up normally despite me pushing F8 at the stated time. So, I ran it in regular mode.
**On that same step, there were "No reports available" so I did not save it.
**When running SUPERAntiSpyware, there was not a summary because there were no items found.
**On the Panda Activescan, it gave me a message (my notes are unclear on this one) that (I think) the downloader (popcaploader) was located in a file on my desktop, which is called Indigo Ocean Dreams (it was a CD download I purchased from a kids' site to help kids sleep)...so, I'm a little skeptical about how/if the downloader came WITH the file I purchased or it somehow found that folder and came from elsewhere.

The scan result from SuperAntiSpyware (yesterday, completed in the order you request, before I fully completed the "to-do" list in the above thread) is:

One last thing, I believe I have a firewall through my DSL provider. I disabled the AVG Firewall as it was blocking my access to the internet. If there is a different fix, I would like to have the add'l firewall protection (don't know if I truly need it), but it was blocking my email and net access.

Thank you for your help!

As a side note, I am using Firefox on my laptop and have meant to install it on this desktop, but, again, haven't. After this is fixed, should I go ahead and get rid of Explorer and use Firefox? Because it looks like the downloader is/was in the IE cache, would having Firefox eliminate this in the future?
