pc wont boot unless i clear the cmos

Hi i just built my computer and it wont boot unless i reset the cmos which is anoying after awhile. so thats the 1st problem the second one is when windows loads the screen needs to get brighter before it starts to load which is time consuming.

my pc specs.

E6850 3.0 ghz.
ABIT IP35 PRO
XFX Geforce 8500 215mb
A 550 wats psu cool max
sony dvd player
2 gib. of memory OCZ
250 gib. sata hardrive segate
