Hi! I was surfing the net for games couple days ago, when all of a sudden pop-ups from www.specialgoods.info kept popping up. I also got shortcuts to all these random things ([bleep], gambling) on my desktop. I tried to delete them, but within a few minutes, they would come up again. I receive many different messages telling me that I'm infected by stealth hijack virus, directing me to download antispy software, which I didn't do...., saying that my computer is at a big risk...etc

Some errors I received....
for example:

Error #317 – Microsoft Windows Security Warning X

X Your Windows is corrupted with spyware virus.
You must patch your PC urgently to protect your system.
Private info is accessed by ports:

-8080
-3128

You can patch your PC for free now and delete all spyware viruses.

Click OK to chose and download free spyware removal using AntiSPY

OK Cancel

There was also a red x at the bottom right of my task bar and if I click it, it will go to this specialgoods.info site

Also it has changed my homepage to this site.

I have AVG and Adaware......I tried scanning through my computer with both softwares. When I used Adaware, the first time, at the end of the scan, I couldn't delete many files, then my computer restarted automatically..... but then eventually I tried again, and deleted all the ones I could (I don't know what happened to the ones I couldn't delete, they didn't come up in the second scan)

I also scanned the computer through with AVG and deleted or healed everything possible, however after using AVG and Adaware, the problem still exists....

I now have to ask someone with experience with all these stuff..... I leave it to your hands.... Please reply and try to help me...and bear with me if I don't get some things you post (solutions), I'm not very good at computers..... Your help will be very appreciated.....

Saying an early thank you.... :tazz:

Heres my log....

Please follow the steps in this topic.

Please do an online scan, 2 would be better,
Trend Micro Housecall
Panda online scan
Make sure that you choose "fix" or "clean".

Then, please report back in this topic.

Let me know what the virusscans found and cleaned.

I can't complete an online scan, because in the middle of a scan, the pop up, warning message came up, and changed the address of explorer to specialgoods.info..... however, it did find Worm_sasser-1 and cleaned it.....

So what do I do next? Can u take a look at my hijackthis log posted earlier?? Thanks

Oke, let's get some helpers first.

1. Download Stinger.
Save it to your desktop.
2. Doubleclick the file stinger.exe and open the program.
3. Set it to scan your entire disk
4. Press 'scan now'

***

Download CWShredder, update it. Then open the program and click ‘fix’.

***

Download the Hoster from here. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.

I'l'prepare an advise in the meantime.

Please copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
the previously taken steps may have altered your HijackThis log. Just put a check to the ones still there

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Let the system reboot.

Than rerun the online virusscan. Reboot again and post back with the results of the scan and a fresh log using HijackThis.

I've done stinger, hoster and all those other stuff.....

I tried to delete the two files on Killbox in safe mode, but after i selected the file and reboot now, it says pending file rename operations registry data has been removed by external process.....

???

OK, but after it says pending file rename operations registry data has been removed by external process.....there was no option to say no, and the only thing I could do was click ok, then nothing happened....

So I restarted the computer manually into normal mode and the redbox in the taskbar is still there, along with my other shortcuts.....

My log currently is...

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Please move to:
C:\PROGRAM FILES\common files\microsoft shared\msinfo\
Find info32.exe and delete it.

Did this work?

No, I still cant find the file info32.exe

In that folder u told me, there was a file called msinfo32, I'm not sure if its .exe but it wasn't hidden

But at the moment.... I think that in safe mode before, the 2 files were deleted by killbox, as I tried again, and it said that the files didn't exist.....

However, overall, the problem is still here...... with all these warnings and pop-ups...... but I have a great feeling that you'll succeed in helping me get rid of the problem....:tazz:

please run Killbox again.

Select "Delete on Reboot".

copy and paste:
C:\PROGRAM FILES\common files\microsoft shared\msinfo\info32.exe

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

Reboot and post back here.
