I helped acersmall today, but I can't find any evidence of a malware infection of any kind. The problem is with the Search function in Windows - while it opens, and the little dog will go and sit down, the area on the left where the search information should be entered is blank - there's no place to enter any information. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello acersmall...

Let's try registering a couple dll files.

Click Start, then Run, and type regsvr32 jscript.dll....click "Ok"...click "Ok" again.

Click Start, then Run, and type regsvr32 vbscript.dll....click "Ok"...click "Ok" again.

If you get an error while doing this, let me know.

Try the Search function.
