Hi,

I have a windows XP home edition machine which was lousy with backdoor trojan's, and virues as well as the citi.com internet explorer hijacker thing.

I have updated and run all the programs suggested (adaware, cleanup, hijack this, cwshredder, spybot, TDS) and others as well.

I removed mcafee completely (outdated) and installed newest Symantec. Ran it several times, it now says it is clean.

The machine is running kind of slow.

Can someone take a look at this hjt log and let me know if there is something else evil lurking in there?!!

Thanks so much for your help!

I will need a few files to be able to help you better.

Can you please mail me zipped copies of:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ntfs32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services\{D05D6C86-455C-4510-83B7-4127BEAD0876}\SECURITY.EXE

Send them to pieterATwilderssecurity.org (replace AT with @)

Press CTRL ALT DELETE to open Windows Task Manger. Click on the Processes tab and end the process: ntddetect.exe if you find it running.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Disk Keeper] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services\{D05D6C86-455C-4510-83B7-4127BEAD0876}\SECURITY.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ntddetect] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntddetect.exe

O20 - Winlogon Notify: ntfs32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ntfs32.dll
O21 - SSODL: vvAGRHb - {803B9DA2-2A91-3708-370E-92E489B3D1A3} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hw.dll

Then reboot and run HijackThis again.
Some of the entries will probably return, but we will take it from there after I have had a look at the files.

Regards,

Pieter

Don't have the c:\windows\system32\services\{D05..... entry.
I have emailed the other two files to you.
I did not have ntddetect.exe running.
I checked/fixed what you said, and here is my new log:

We have a winner. :tazz:

kmerigold.zip/hw.dll - infected by Trojan-Proxy.Win32.Agent.df
kmerigold.zip/ntfs32.dll - infected by Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Small.kn

Did this folder exist?
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services\{D05D6C86-455C-4510-83B7-4127BEAD0876}

Make sure you have hidden files showing: http://www.xtra.co.n...1916458,00.html

It seems to be another part of the Proxy-trojan

*Click Here to download Killbox by Option^Explicit.
*Extract the program to your desktop

If you can find that folder reboot into safe mode and delete:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services\{D05D6C86-455C-4510-83B7-4127BEAD0876} <= entire folder

* Now find Killbox and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
* Put checkmarks in the Replace on reboot and Use dummy options
*In the field labeled Full Path of File to Delete enter the file path:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hw.dll

Still in safe mode fix:
O21 - SSODL: vvAGRHb - {803B9DA2-2A91-3708-370E-92E489B3D1A3} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hw.dll

Boot back to normal, run HijackThis again and post a new log.

Pieter

Your log is clean now. :tazz:

To make sure download a free trial of TDS3 from here:
http://tds.diamondcs...x.php?page=home
Update as described here:
http://tds.diamondcs...php?page=update
When that is ready click System Testing > Full sytem scan
Delete everything it gives you a positive identification on.

And I'm curious to know if you have any idea how this happened?
O23 - Service: CWShredder Service - InterMute, Inc. - C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Copy of MalWare Tools\CWShredder.exe

How what happened? I copied the tools (shredder, hijackthis, etc. off of a CD onto the machine, and that is where I put the folder they were in. It didn't install it there, if that is what you are asking... I did that.

Did I answer your question?

Thanks again for all your very prompt help!!!

It's not supposed to be running as a service.

have HijackThis fix this entry:
O23 - Service: CWShredder Service - InterMute, Inc. - C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Copy of MalWare Tools\CWShredder.exe

I'll ask Intermute to make sure and will let you know.

Glad we could help. :tazz:

Answer from Intermute:

It appears that CWShredder may be running as a service on your computer.

Please follow the steps below to resolve the issue:

Open Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services (If you do not see Administrative Tools please click on the "Switch to Classic View” link at the top left hand side on the control panel)

In the services window you will see a service labeled "CWShredder Service". Please right click on the service and select "Properties".

A dialog box labeled "CWShredder Service Properties (Local Computer)” will appear.

In the middle of the window you will see a drop down box labeled "Startup Type" with Automatic selected. Change this selection to "Disabled".

Select "Apply" and select "OK". Close all windows and return to the desktop.

Reboot your computer to confirm that the error message has been removed on startup.

Pieter
