I have been through it with this virus. I have done basically everything. I have used vundofix and virtumondebegone thing as well. I have used hijackthis as well. It started out as ddaby.dll and is gone now and is called pmnli.dll. I also have tried safe mode and everything. I have rebooted the pc after vundo did the scan. I can make it scan and it finds nothing. I have used to trial version of norton to scan it and it was saying ddaby now its saying pmnli. It has also said the same thing with CCleaner. Right now when i run ccleaner it says it is clean but norton still says its there and when i go to the sys32 folder its there and it cannot be deleted. It has no other tab other than general so you cant look at it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Please uninstall the ASK Toolbar via software add/remove programs.
Reboot afterwards.

After reboot,

I understand that you need help in order to get rid of the malware that is present on your system - But you need to help us first..
I notice that you never scanned with an Antivirus previously before starting this thread - because you don't even have an Antivirus installed!
This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world. You said you used the trial of Norton previously, but you're supposed to have an Antivirus up and running in the background all the time. An Antivirus is not really to remove malware, but to PREVENT malware in the first place.
That's why I want you to install one first!!

* Please install Avira Antivirus: http://www.free-av.com/
This is a free Antivirus.

Perform a full scan with Avira and let it delete everything it is finding.
Then reboot.
After reboot, open your Avira and select "reports".
There doubleclick the report from the Full scan you have done. Click the "Report File" button and copy and paste this report in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.
Then we'll start from there, because it really makes no sense otherwise that we clean this up manually if an Antivirusscan is not present which should be able to deal with most and prevent further reinfection.

Hi,

Well i di have ad-aware on here but i removed it when i was trying to clean it out.

Ad-Aware is an Antispyware scanner, not an Antivirus. There's a difference.
Why did you remove it? Because the reason why we recommend people to install an Antivirus and Antispyware is in the first place to PREVENT malware. So that's why an Antivirus should always be present and running in the background.

* Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

Hi,

Since you have installed the Recovery Console, proceed with the instructions present here how to use Combofix and post the log: http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

Then post the log from Combofix in your next reply.

Extra note: Since you have installed the Recovery Console (which is always useful for future reference - read here why), from now on, if you reboot your computer, right after reboot, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well.
Don't select Recovery Console as we don't need it.
By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows.

Hi,

Both times that i restarted with combofix internet explorer has came back to my desktop

Yes, that's normal. It's Combofix that restores the Icon for Internet Explorer again. So don't worry about that. If you don't want to have the IE icon on your desktop, you can delete it again afterwards once we are done here.

One note though.. I see you have Ad-Ware Pro installed. This is not the same as the legitimate Ad-Aware Pro! No wonder it didn't find anything. Please uninstall this Ad-Ware Pro, because this one has a questionable reputation.

Then reboot.

After reboot,

* Open notepad - don't use any other texteditor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into notepad:

Folder::
C:\VundoFix Backups
C:\Program Files\Ad-Ware Pro
C:\WINDOWS\Ad-Ware Pro

RENV::
C:\Program Files\Ares\Ares	 .exe
C:\Program Files\Creative\MediaSource\Detector\CTDetect .exe

Registry::
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Yahoo! Pager"=-
"swg"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"HPDJ Taskbar Utility"=-

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

Posted Image

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.

Hi,

Just some minor steps to perform...

Navigate to your C:\Windows folder

In there you'll find a folder called AppPatch
However, in your case, there will be two folders present there with that same name in your C:\Windows folder , a good AppPatch folder and a bad AppPatch folder.
The good AppPatch contains the files acadproc.dll, AcGenral.dll, AcLayers.dll and some other files. So don't delete that folder.
You're supposed to delete the bad AppPatch folder. So the other one. Most probably it won't contain any files.
If you're in doubt, ask me first :)

Then reinstall your Avira, because you were dealing with a Fileinfector previously and it infected a part of Avira as well. Combofix deleted that part, so you should reinstall your Avira again in order to let it work properly.

Then, * Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Then, as a final check..

* Go here to run an online scannner from ESET.
  • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Click Start
  • Check next options: Remove found threats and Scan unwanted applications.
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
