Hi. My little brother (14yrs) cannot contain himself from clicking on those 'Click Here For 10,000 Free Games' type of ads and it drives me crazy. I'm the one stuck cleaning up all that spyware junk. -------- Any suggestions on where to direct him to so that he can only choose from a selection of a few games that wouln't be risky? ------ I was thinking to just let him choose from the Yahoo Games. ------- He's into Runescape too which I don't see a problem with, I hope. ------ Also, any guidelines you can offer would be helpful too so I can pass along to him. Thanks ! ! ! :)

There's always Pogo.Com if you are into Board Games and such. He may like it, he may not.

Well, you could tell him not to click on advertisments? or get a antispyware with real-time protection to block out those spywares.

Pogo.com actually has a LOT more to offer than just board games. I've been a member there for a few years now. There's everything from word games, to puzzles, to action games, to "casino" type games. There's something for everyone, and it's free!

Indeed. Though I am disappointed that half the games you need the elite member status for now. But that is relatively cheap.

But as for Runescape, it fine in the way of advertisements, as long as you dont mind him being exposed to quite a bit of rude people and inhumane jokes. But, not so different from the real world sometimes? But there are far better alternatives.

I have an extensive list of great online games he can try, PM me if you want them, 99% of them are free. =)

(I'm a huge free online mmoprg fan!)

Note: MMORPG: Massive Multiplayer Online Role Play Game(s)

Hi there, why not just post them for everyone's benefit?

Shaiya from aeriagames.com is a great game and its a free MMO. Or you can get him Rift. You have to buy it but after that it's free to play all the way through and its a MMO.

Hes 14, not 5. Tell him to stop being foolish and teach him a thing or 2.

If that doesn't work...get him into client based games. Runescape has a client you can download btw. You can also uninstall Java after getting the Runescape client.

That should indirectly stop him from doing it, since the games he'll be into will be available from the desktop.

Hiya
As he's 14 I think even if you give him a list he will venture off to other sites anyway.
A good start would be to install some security that stops spyware, Spywareblaster, Peerblock (the spywarelist), Malwarebytes anti-exploit (beta product) and Malwarebytes pro are examples that would be a good start.
You could block the IP's of game sites you do not wish him to visit, this can be done in peer block by adding your own list of blocked IP's.
Let him also have his own account on your computer with limited permissions, then he will have to ask if he wants something installed.
I use all of these products and they all have stopped things on a number of occasions.
The next and probably the best tool to make sure he does not do this is to keep an eye on him, look over his shoulder once in a while. If that does not work create a psychological effect let him visit sites and then have a fake malware infection infect the PC which takes it offline for a week or 2 there by creating in his mind the idea that he better be careful what he does or he might ruin the PC again.
This is the way I teach mine with real time lessons and he learns quick, the only thing he wont believe is fish fingers are made of fish.
Good luck with what ever you do.

I researched rune scape and found a similar game for free for you called panzar, here is the link, http://www.panzar.com/
Check the vid out first to see if it's suitable, the graphics are better and good reviews

Well, just stay away from browser type games, since the sites are all packed with ads and fake links it's still harmful. Tell him that what he is doing is risky and even dangerous, he should listen to you. He seems like a big guy now, 14 years is no longer little or young :D If he really wants to play a good game. Then I would suggest you to buy him Guild Wars 2. It's a one time investment no ingame purchases necessary great events, awesome soundtracks by Jeremy Soule, I even stop playing to listen to them :D great graphics even if not the best. "A Huge map", easy leveling and many many things and stuff to discover in the game. He would spend his time with top quality if he plays the game. A living world that your brother will definitely be satisfied if he is looking for MMORPG's (youı said he is playing runescape). A fellow member suggested rift, but as far as I heard it will soon reqiures in-game purchases to continue, so it may frustrate you and your brother.

Here is the original site for the game,

My link

Check it out, even my half-hearted friend became a fan of the game after we bought the game together and with a friend or not it is a great game that definitely deserves every single buck you spend for it :) The game is constantly evolving with new events, new maps, dungeons and with a great development team. The players are extremely supportive.... You will just like it and your brother will definitely stop falling for those crappy click and have million games stuffs :D

peace bro let me know if your brother likes the game ;)
Have a great day :)

He's 14 years old. He's the same as me and I know better than to click on those dumb ads. First of all, make sure he has a good anti-spyware/malware/whateverware software that will block of untrusted sites automatically. I got Trend Micro Cloud Edition for free with my computer and it's saved my butt more times than you'd care to know. The thing is, nowadays, most free-to-play games are from Asian game companies and the majority of them, especially the ones making F2P games, are money-grubbing monsters. Seriously. Very few of them are well-designed and even come close to a AAA title. They violate so many basic game mechanic principles such as balance.

The free-to-play games I play include games by Artix Entertainment, such as DragonFable and AdventureQuest Worlds (an MMORPG). I like their company because of their philosophy and because I've interacted with them enough to know that the developers really are nice guys. Depth of gameplay varies but I think that it's definitely enough to have fun with. The graphics are alright but the engine is not epic. The art is very cool too. A cool bunch of guys, a cool community and wacky weekly releases will definitely keep his hands full. I've spent hundreds of dollars on their games not just because it's fun but also because I love to support their studio. :P

Other free-to-play games worth trying include Battlefield Play4Free and possibly Ghost Recon Online. These games are from big companies hiring studios to make F2P spinoffs. By no means perfect or better than the originals, they definitely are worth several hours. I've also played Neverwinter and it's not too shabby. The mechanics are cool, the engine is nice and quality in general is very high. But don't let him buy anything from them, PWE charges ridiculous amounts for "this item" and "a bunch of currency".

Of course, in F2P games, there are certain things you'll have to watch out for in particular. For example, watch out for account traders. Account trading disgusts any honest person there are too many people trying to do it. Then, there's gold farmers. In games with free trade, watch out for gold farmers and hope that your brother has a good moral compass in him. :P

And then, there are games that you find on www.kongregate.com and www.armorgames.com. It's the only place I'd go to find these browser-based, mostly-Flash games. Oh, and visit www.radicalplay.com because they have some cool games too. The games on these websites are high-quality but you'll need to learn the "art of the Search". Look for highly rated games and you'll find some wonderful games to play. I would try out the Epic War series, Sonny series, Crush the Castle series, Raze series and maybe the Sinjid series just to name a few. Lots of fun to be found here.

In conclusion, I think I've listed many places your brother could go to find some good, safe, clean fun as well as some general guidelines to internet usage and gaming. I think the most important thing is to make sure he knows the rules of the game and has a moral compass inside of him that will guide hi to do the right thing instead of falling to gold farmers and stuff. Also, once he's got down the basic principles, let him explore by himself. He's 14; he'll be fine. :P

Oh, and I'd recommend you let him save up some money and pick up some AAA titles as well. They are really high-quality, as their name implies and often guarantee a ton of fun. For his age, I recommend the Prince of Persia series. :) Games like Battlefield 3 are great too, but I do hate the profanity.

Good luck! :)

Just get him on steam they have some great free to play games and you can put an age limit on the games he will be able to get. Get a pin hole cam so it sees just his pc screen you can get hand held devices that connect to the net then you can check on him anywhere. Imagine your out and hes in doing something he shouldn't. Ring ring and say to him oh no you don't that will make him so para he will think twice.
