OK I installed the IE SP2 yesterday. Didn't reboot till today.
When I tried to run Team Fort2 today winXP crashed and gave me the error.
"RAID Services US English Resources encountered a problem and needs to close."

List of current related symptoms
-No sound. WMP won't open. Winamp gives error "Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers... Code: 88780078"

-Can't run system restore, get this error "System Restore is not able to protect your computer."

-Computer doesn't acquire an ip address when booted, need to type ipconfig /renew.

- Can't run windows update, says i ned to fix update.inf/cryptographic.

-Can't install nFOrce motherboard/raid/sound dirvers. Get some error.

-Can't get into Disk Managment, get error "RPC Server is unavailable."

-Minimized windows don't go to the task bar. They min to the desktop right above the bar.
(everything above is a new problem as of today)

I've tried booting the computer with Nvraidservice.exe turned off in msconfig but it didnt help. I'm currently trying to plug a sound card in to see if it works (network, sound, raid are all built into the motherboard).
I don't have the windows xp cd but this install is from my original genuine disk.

Any ideas? Anything at all?
Thanks

I may of pinned the problem to the RPC Service isn't running... and I cant get it started. I get the error

Hi Psilocybes, welcome.

Look in Event Viewer, see what the actual error code for the RPC server not starting is, post that here please.

Start / Run, type eventvwr.msc and press Enter.

There are 3 errors on startup.
Application error event 1001
Eventsystem error 4609
application errror 1000

It wont let open the errors to read the text, this is what i can see from the over view.
There are no errors since startup under security and system.

Take a look here: http://support.micro...om/?kbid=838428
Sounds very much like your situation.

Edit: Here is another possibility: http://askbobrankin....navailable.html

I've tried those. My computer doesn't have a Legacy_rpcss key and my RPCSS key looks the same as one in a healthy computer (ill try to export and import a healthy key anyway).
