there is no merge option wen i right click on it, just Open, Edit, Open With Command Prompt, n Open With...

it asks me if i want to open, then if i say yes it says to work correctly this will close and restart the explorer shell. this will not harm your computer. then i can continue yes or no

OMG wannabe1 ur my hero!!! :) thank you, that worked n my start bar is back and everything appears to b running right and normal. ne idea as to what exactly wen wrong in the first place tho? im just curious

Something caused a registry corruption...and a good one. It took all your restore points, too. Tough one for sure.

Go to system restore and set a fresh restore point and name it "Initial Recovery". That will be a good point to restore to if you have serious problems. Choose a more recent one if you just need to roll back the registry after a minor issue.

I'm impressed with the way you stuck with this one...well done!
