its the other one, the SP2 disk will only work if i put it in once the computer is already booted up, and then its only got the updates for SP2 on it, its not really an actuall windows installation disk, it wont let me boot my computer from the disk with that one.

Is the XP Pro disk you have a retail version or an OEM version? Does it have a key with it?

Yup. Get the key and we'll do a parallel install so we can get your data. Then you can get rid of the broken install.

Your user account may be corrupted.
Can you create a new user account and see if the task bar (start button) is visable?
  • press control, alt., and delete
  • select task manager
  • select file
  • select run
  • type "control panel"
  • open user accounts
  • create a new profile (as administrator)

Download THIS, scan and save a log, attach it to your next reply.

I'm going to have someone check it for us real quick just to rule out a possibility.

All clear.

Download the attached file and save it to the desktop. Right click on it and choose "Extract All"...extract it to your desktop.
Right click on the extracted file and choose "Merge"...accept the change.

Reboot and see if you have the taskbar.
