I was thinking about upgrading from 2GB of pc6400 to 4GB. I was wondering if it really matters what company I buy the RAM from.

Does it matter which brand of ram you buy? Basically, yes, in that you should avoid generic ram where ever possible. It's normally not significantly cheaper that decent ram, it won't come with a lifetime warranty like decent stuff does and it's tends to be more problematic.

Do you have to buy ram from the same company as your existing ram? No. But try and match the specs as closely as possible to avoid any potential problems. That means the timings as well as the basic specs.
