my computer has been running slowly starting yesterday. im not the only one on this computer and i know what i go to is all safe so im thinking it must have been someone else. well i ran a hijackthis and was wondering if anyone can help.

when i clicked on the combofix icon from the desktop, mcafee started putting these pop ups saying this program could be dangerous to your computer etc, giving me 3 options of block this program, allow, or leave it alone. well i said leave it alone and when the combo fix came up with the disclaimer, i just canceled it and when i hit it, the icon disappeared. im very paranoid about using things that scan my computer like that without knowing exactly what is does.

This tool was built to remove known problems, the database that it uses is huge, but it is a known safe tool. As with any problem that inserts itself into a computer such as yours, there always is a risk of damage when you try to remove it. I believe Combofix prompts you to install recovery console during its fix now.

That being said, before we continue please understand that we take every precaution to ensure that this removal process will be safe. There are no guarantees that we might not encounter a problem during this process. You need to decide between the risk of platform failure and the risk associated with malware on your machine. The choice is yours.

There are less invasive methods we can persue, and remove everything manually. This takes quite a bit of time and effort, but has no better guarantee of success. Let me know which direction you would like to go

guess i can download combofix again. after reading some stuff from the majorgeeks stuff guess its a good program, dont really like the part where it turns off your internet though.

sounds like there is a lack of confidence in what we are trying to instruct you to do. If you would like to read more about the first tool I suggested read what the creator of the tool wrote: COMBOFIX INFO

If you wish to continue, please start with Combofix. If you are uncomfortable with this I will end this thread and help another person. Please don't take this the wrong way, but there are a lot of people asking for help.
