====STEP 1====

• Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
• Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):
  
  

  C:\Program Files\Upromise_Remind_U\UpromiseRemindU2.dll

• Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  
• Click the red Moveit! button.
• A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
• Close OTMoveIt2

If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.


====STEP 2====
your java is out of date which can leave your machine vulnerable to infection.

Updating Java and Clearing Cache

• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
• It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
  Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
• If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
  
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4
• After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
• Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
• There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 Checked
  Downloaded Applets
  Downloaded Applications
  Other Files
• Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
  Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
• Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

Please let me know if I should keep all these desktop things ( Dss, HijackThis, ComboFix, OTmoveIt etc) and what do you suggest I have or do to minimize these problems. I have Avast antivirus and recently downloaded Avg anti spyware and spybot. I had windows defender but honestly I don't think it has done squat and would like to uninstall it. I don't know if I should keep spybot because it asks me if I want to allow changes or not and I have no clue what there talking about in order to make such a decision!

keep spybot, but disable teatimer. there are better programs than teatimer in the list below.


all there is to do now is to flush your temp folders, clear away the fix tools, reset your restore points (there will be infections lurking in there) and then for me to leave you with some ideas on how to help protect your machine from future infection.


====STEP 1====
Flushing your temp folders......

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Time for some housekeeping

• Click START then RUN

The above procedure will:

• Delete the following:
  • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
  • VundoFix backups, if present
  • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
  • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
• Reset the clock settings.
• Hide file extensions, if required.
• Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
• Reset System Restore.

you can also clear away any other fix tools we used.

• Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  
• Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  
• Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)

Ran combofix /u and did not see "2" to select. It ran .exe but did uninstall combo fix as the icon is gone from my desktop. Dss, OTmoveit, Hijack this as well as the icons for csf,kasper and fixit.reg ar all still there. Should I leave this stuff? Also of Spybot says there is a change in registry, how do I know whether to allow it or not?? Thanks, lcadvm

hmm, sounds like it did not remove everything. the short answer is yes, remove all the above. but lets make sure your Restore Points have been set and if OTMoveIT is still there before you go int there and remove everything manually.

====STEP 1====
if OTMoveIT is still on your machine this will clear it........

• Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
• Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
• Click on the CleanUp! button
• A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
• If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OtMoveit2 to rech the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
• Click Yes to beging the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
• You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

you can now clear away all the remaining icons and the fixit.reg. if by csf you mean the text files for combofixit that we created and was created by combofixit, then they can be deleted also.

if OTMoveIT did not clean, then you can delete it all quite safely manually.

leaving them on your machine will do no harm, but they become out of date quite quickly and so is best to delete them now.


====STEP 2====
lets make sure your System Restore is reset......

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Brilliant! Clean up removed the icons except for Hijack but thats ok. I'll delete the txt ones. I ran spybot when I first downloaded it and kept getting small pop up windows from spybot which I either had to allow or, I think, deny. They said something about changes in registry and then would list the area. One said NT registry if I recall, I searched through Spybot help and I think these had something to do with Tea Timer which I do not have running anymore. I have no idea what Tea Timer did or if I need to use something else in your list instead. After I system restore is there anything else I need to do?

it will have been teatimer producing those. Install spywareblaster and spyware guard, and turn teatimer off, but keep the spybot search&destroy.

my routine is to update and run a complete antivirus, antispyware, spybot search&destroy and Adaware scan each week. takes 2 to 3 hours, but i am generally not needing the computer then anyway.

assuming your machine is fine then there is nothing more you need to do after resetting your system restore.
