Check to see if you have the option to reset to default. You can also try each setting one at a time to see if that helps. Another option would be to pull the CMOS battery for a few hours and see if that helps.

Here is a link to some suggested fixes for your problem.

I took battery out for almost 4 hrs. replaced and booted... the same thing no difference.

It pauses about 50 seconds and actually screen flashes off and on about 3-4 times during that time.

Please go to windows updates and get all critical updates upto Service Pack 1, stay away from Service Pack 2. See if that helps.

While installing updates I got this message... I have not clicked on it because I have no idea what it may do or not do...

"The software tool has detected that you are running Microsoft software that may contain security vulnerability.

Would you like to learn more about the security vulnerability as well as necessary security updates that address that? ( Note that if you click No this tool will not alert you again)"

The install has been put on hold until I respond...

Updates complete as far as I know... But I never saw SP1 or SP2 even referred to..

Still just as slow... From the time my Desktop came up until it finally loaded the other things was 50-55 seconds. Long pauses between starting boot and getting to desktop also....

Hello my6126,

Another expert pointed me to this thread below, not sure if your running a SATA drive but it's worth a shot.

njustice:

I did several different things trying to correct the pause and I have helped some as i will explain.

I do have a SATA Hard Drive and also a SATA DVD by Plextor..

But It does not seem to be in thast area..

Here are the drives I have and there is a wide span in drive letters and I don't know why or how to even try to correct or if it is needful.

A: 1.44 floppy
B; 1.44 floppy 7 in 1 card reader
C: Main Boot Drive
D: 160 WD External Drive... Can be firewire or USB ( I have it on Firewire )
E: 750 Zip Drive
K: Plextor 712SA
L: Plextor 708A

Before trying different things I also had another 100 zip.. Because of so many files that I had stored on its different floppies and it was "F"

Anyway...

I dissconnect all the external drives and booted and it was somewhat better probably cutting the time to a pause of 30 seconds.

I added back one drive at a time statrting with the 160 WD and it continued to have a 30 second pause until I got to the 100 Zip and it was back to about 50- 55 seconds. So that is why I have it disconnected saving some pause time.

I can hook the 100 zip up to the USB after I am running and it connects and I can read files.

I don't need it all the time so that can be done.

I am just confused about the drive letters that are spread fromE: to K:

I am sure this was not like this before we cleaned but I can see no reason that it would have changed...

I am wondering if perhaps during the pause the Bios is searching for other drives perhaps between E and K

Thanks for help..

If you happen to get any information I might be able to use... Send it on to me please and thanks.

Hello my6126, your problem sounds like a hardware issue maybe the folks at the sites I pointed you to in my previous posts can help. I'm sorry that I couldn't help you more than I have already.
