I have recently built my first pc and generally everything seems to work fine....however...

When i start the pc, my external harddrive (Seagate 9Y7845) is not detected. If i remove the power cable on the H/D and then connect it back up again, windows recognises it and it works fine until I turn the pc off then on again.

Anybody know what could be causing this its just a bit annoying more than anything else..

Cheers

That's very normal for USB drives. Especially since they are primarily used for backup and storage and not in operation all the time. Most of them won't last very long if you operate them 24/7 because of the lack of cooling for the drive.

My PC is not on 24/7, a couple of hours a night at most...When the PC turns off the light on the H/D goes out.

The issue described in my first has only become a problem since changing my pc so was wondering if there is something I have missed when building the pc or something I have to do with windows to fix this...
