Hello:

My Mom's printer died a few days ago. I finally remoted it to her machine and found the Print Spooler wasn't started. I started it, but ran into some other problems. In the end, I wound up uninstalling the printer driver.

It wasn't until today that I could get her to drop that Driver disk in the ROM Drive and leave the PC on long enough for the reinstall. The drivers installed successfully, but when we connect the printer via the USB cable, a Windows Error Message appears stating that, "The Remote Procedure Call Failed." It then tells me that the hardware wasn't set up and that there was a problem during the install.

I've been all over the MS Knowlegebase today but can't find any answers.

The printer, if it matters, is a Lexmark Z1420.

Is there any way to fix this?

Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Magus

Nevermind:

I kept working on the machine remotely until it just died. Called Mom and she said that the error on the screen said there was a bad Windows Image and an issue with the SHSVCS.dll file.

This is the third time she's had major problems with this machine in the last 6 months or so. I'm assuming she has a bad hard drive now. Will do testing later.

Thanks,
