Windows update isn't installing updates. There are something like 100 updates to do and they're not being installed and I don't know why. Could anybody help?

Look in Event Viewer and see if there are any errors being logged there that might shed some light on what is happening.

One possibility is that the SoftwareDistribution folder is corrupted:
Try the following, see if it fixes it:

Turn off Automatic Update Service:
1) Click on Start then Run, type services. msc and click OK
2) Rt. click Automatic Update Service and select Stop

Rename the Software Distribution folder:
1) Click on Start then Run, type explorer %systemroot% and click OK
2) Rt. click the SoftwareDistribution folder
3) Rename it to SoftwareDistribution.old
4) Press Enter to apply the change
5) Close Windows Explorer

Turn on Automatic Update Service:
1) Click on Start then Run, type services. msc and click OK
2) Rt. click Automatic Update Service and select Start

Now Windows Update isn't running at all

Click on Start then Windows Update, see if that works.

Edit: You may also have to reboot after you rename the folder.

Nope, updates still aren't installing.

Did you restart the Automatic Update Service after you renamed the folder? Is it running now?

Okay, try downloading and installing Windows Update 3.1. It's a stand alone install and does not depend on Windows Update so you should be able to install it.

See if that helps.

If it still doesn't work try this

Re-register the Windows Update DLL with the commands below
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll

Attempt to run Windows Update again.
