How do i tell SATA compatible?

How can i tell if my motherboard is SATA compatible? Is there any sort of cable on it?

Now i use ATA 80Gigs hard drive and i'm interested in buying a second one 250 or 300 Gigs.

Hello, and welcome to Geeks To Go.
SATA uses a different cable\connector than IDE.
If your mother board has the SATA connectors you can use a SATA drive.
