:) i did a spyware system sweep and these appeared
1.) virus informational troj/virtum-genc:windows/system32/dcbeg.ini
2.) adware: virtumonde

When quarentied, i select and remove these from the system, and they still return-- as i do the sweeps, i keep getting a pop-up window wanting to install something on the toolbar named BHO Lsass.exe. i block that window and it keeps appearing and i can't do anything until it stops.

i have windows xp. Have never posted before but i am desperate. my startup page has lost its short cut icons. they flash on and off and then are gone for good. i work around my problems getting on to the computer & email & internet with the task manager, (ctrl, alt, delete) buttons. sure could use some help. :)

Hello jillsusan

Welcome to G2Go. :)
=================
* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Hijack This.
  • Click on I agree
  • Then Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

hey kahdah, here it is... earlier this evening before you posted your reply i downloaded superantispyware at superadblocker.com because it was free and for now my desktop icons have returned. it cleaned out 233 threats mostly adware, one was a trojan winfixer and the other was an unclassified unknown orgin system bug. after that sweep was done i began one of my webroot spyware sweeper with antivirus sweeps and those two virus' are still there the troj/virtum-gen and the virtumonde. good luck kahdah on your work here! :)

We will get this sorted out soon enough. :)

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Please open up Notepad and copy all of the items in the code box below.
Change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as fixthis.reg on your Desktop.
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\control\lsa]
"Authentication Packages"=hex(7):6d,73,76,31,5f,30,00,00

Now double-click fixthis.reg.
A window will come up asking if you want to let it merge with the registry.
Click yes.
=========================
Please then re-open Hijackthis and click on "Do a system scan only"
Then place a check mark next to these entries below:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1DA2BCBA-CA22-4BE9-95E6-57C8CA13C24E} - (no file)
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebse...?p=ZNxmk762YYUS
O20 - Winlogon Notify: cbxwuur - cbxwuur.dll (file missing)

Now click on Fix Checked and then close Hijackthis.
=====================================================
Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dcbeg.ini2
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebcd.dll
    C:\Program Files\FunWebProducts
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\f3PSSavr.scr
    C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • OTMoveit2 will create a log of moved files in the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder. The log's name will appear as the date and time it was created, with the format mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
==========================================
After that Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report
===========================================================

PLease go to Start >Control Panel >Add\remove programs and uninstall anything that says Viewpoint in it.
=================================
After that please re-open Hijackthis and click on "Do a system scan only"
Then place a check mark next to these entries below:

O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.exe.imgfar...p1.0.0.15-3.cab

Now click on Fix Checked and then close Hijackthis.
====================================
Reboot you computer and
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dcbeg.ini2
======================================
Post the results from the new ot move it log and run a scan with spysweeper to see if those files are still present.
If they are then let me know where they are located such as the entire file path.

You are welcome but we still have a few more steps to finish it up. :)

  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Click on the CleanUp! button
  • A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OtMoveit2 to rech the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to begin the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Delete anything else that we used.
========================
After that please update your Java:
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Ugrading Java:After that
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
=========================
After that Then I will need you to reset your System Restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access.
You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.
Click on *Start
Right-click *My Computer
Click *Properties
Click the *System Restore tab
Check *Turn off System Restore
Click *Apply, and then click *OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
Click on *Start
Right-click *My Computer
Click *Properties
*UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*
Check *Turn on System Restore
Click *Apply, and then click *OK.

That is fine.
Just uninstall all of the java components in the Control Panel except for Java update 3.
After that clean the restore points as I previously instructed and you are then good to go. :)
