ok about 3 or 4 days ago I put a harddrive from one of my other computers in my dell to re-format it and then when I tried to re-start it after I took out the other harddrive it begins to run REALLY slow so please help me if you can. :)

the computer is: dell demension 4600 with a pentium 4 (2.8 ghz) ati tv tuner video card with 256mb of ram on it
and 512 mb of system ram

Hi Blacksmith*...

Let's see what the transfer modes are set to.

Right click on My Computer and choose "Properties". Click the "Hardware" tab then the "Device Manager" button. In Device Manager, expand (click +) IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Right click on the "Primary IDE channel" and choose "Properties". Click on the "Advanced Settings" tab. What is the Current Transfer Mode set to for the two devices listed?

Do this same check on the Secondary IDE channel and post that information here, as well.

It is set to DMA if available.
and ultra DMA mode 5.

secondary IDE channel properties are:

Device 0
transfer mode: DMA if available
current transfer mode: Ultra DMA mode 2

device 1
transfer mode: DMA mode if available
current transfer mode: Ultra DMA mode 2

I re-started the computer and went into the Bios and put it back to default.
