In advance, thank you so much for you help. I've had this problem for a week now. Running XP home and "somebody" must have visited a site not appropriate. I've been unplugging the eithernet connect to the router to kill the problem until I've worked it out. So far with no luck. Have read numerous other threads and done the recommended:AdAware SE Personal (found scad loads and fixed) / CWShredder (may have found one or two I forget) / Spybot Search & Destroy (found a good number & fixed) / Have Symantec firewall and virus protect always on did scan for virus non found / still plagued by vroomsearch / judy tonight did it again from scratch and got another long list of quarantine or trashed files etc. / went to spywarrior site (great site) downloaded and installed and ran Giant - now Microsoft Beta version found many more & fixed.by the way, Somewhere in there I messed up and shut off my symatec firewall while not connected to the router, and forgot to enable it prior to going on the net - I'm sure that did not help, but anyway vroomsearch is still resident. I have the browser privacy permissives cranked up and my firewall settings on max and no cookies etc. so the page just comes up blank, and surfing around is a major pain. Still, with the right password, it gets cooking.

PS just clicked on "check post length" and got an eye full, even with my browser privacy set high, how did that happen. The offendng page is not listed on my "back drop-down list" either.
