Hi all!
I have recently just encounted a trojan the same as the Trojan-Spy.HTML which had been recently posted by another member, I have AVG Free Edition installed version 7.0.308 and it poped up while I was trying to access a car sales site, AVG healed it and then I deleted it from the virus vault (not sure if this was a good move) after restarting the computer the blue screen background with the message saying a trojan had been found was gone and then a internet explorer browser poped up then tried to load a web site, I closed it right away then did the following

Opened regedit
Went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Run

I check regedit all the time to see if any spyware starts up when windows does and this time I found a string causing an explorer browser to open, I deleted it and restarted.
After reboot the problem was fixed.

Right now everything seems good, no freezes all my programs work fine, Happy days even, but there is no background anymore and the option to change it has gone from the display properties window.
As far as I can tell this is the only problem I can see with the naked eye.

Please, could someone help me fix this or provide any usefull information?

Here is my Hijackthis log scanned right before posting this topic,

Get a copy of winsockxpfix.exe before you do anything. This is just a safety
item in case you can't get on the internet afterwards. You just run it and
things should work OK after it reboots your system.

http://www.iup.edu/h...net/winfix.shtm

Also download and install ccleaner.exe from http://www.ccleaner.com. Don't let
it clean anything yet.

Now shutdown and reboot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when you see the PC
maker's logo.
Keep tapping until it tells you it is going to Safe Mode or you see the Safe
Mode menu. Select the top option.

Run HijackThis and just do a Scan only. Check then Fix
Checked the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://lookfor.cc/sp.php?pin=28129
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://lookfor.cc/sp.php?pin=28129
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://lookfor.cc?pin=28129
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://lookfor.cc/sp.php?pin=28129
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://lookfor.cc/sp.php?pin=28129
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://lookfor.cc/sp.php?pin=28129
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://lookfor.cc?pin=28129
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WindowsFY] C:\WP.EXE

Wait 60 seconds and repeat the scan. Did any of the above come back? IF so
leave HijackThis up and right click on the clock and select Task Manager. Then
Processes. Find Explorer.exe, right click on it and select End Process. The
desktop will disappear but HijackThis should still be there. IF you don't see
it switch to Applications in Task Manager and highlight it there then press
Switch To or just double click on it. Check and Fix Checked the above again.
Restart Explorer by Task Manager, File, New Task(Run), explorer.exe, OK.

Now run ccleaner.exe. On the first page, uncheck everything but the two lines
that have the word Temporary in them then Run Cleaner.

Start, Run, regedit, OK to bring up the regedit program.

find HKey_Current_User->Software ->Microsoft->Windows->CurrentVersion>policies (Hit the + sign in front of each Key as you find them. That will open up the subkeys.)

Under Policies is usually an entry named System. If you find it highlight it and press the Delete key. Then OK. Close the program and reboot.

Start, Control Panel, Display (Properties). This should bring up Display Properties/Background. Change the wallpaper to something else and Apply. You may also need to select Web and uncheck the box where it says View My Active Desktop as a web page. OK

Run another HijackThis log and post it. Let's
see how we did.

Ron

PS For what it is worth the wp.exe is the very popular smitfraud.c
