XP does not start

Didn't see your reply had already reregistered the update components and installed the updates. After they completed restarted PC and opened a command prompt and the command obove, with no spaces in the string got a response...the system cannot find the path specified.

This was the command entered %windir%\system32\wups2.dll and press Enter.
