We'll nuke it with Killbox because it is there.

Please read these instructions carefully

*Click Here to download Killbox by Option^Explicit.
*Save it to your desktop.
*Double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*In the field labeled Full Path of File to Delete enter the file path listed below (EXACTLY as it appears, please double check to make sure! I would just copy the file path and paste it in the field):

C:\Windows\System32\msmsgs.exe

Press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it. When it asks if you would like to delete on reboot, press the YES button, when it asks if you want to reboot now, press the NO button. If you receive a "PendingRenameOperation" prompt, please click NO.

CLICK THIS TO LINK TO LEARN HOW TO VIEW HIDDEN FILES and set your system to show them.

Then go into this folder and tell me all of the files in it:
C:\WINDOWS\AD-Aware (NOT your "LavaSoft Ad-Aware" folder in Program Files - Just "AD-Aware" in Windows)

Then, please reboot and post yet another HJT log.

Run HiJackThis, place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LavScn] C:\WINDOWS\AD-Aware\LavImpl.vbs

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present <-If an System Administrator did not set policies then this needs to be fixed

Close HiJackThis.

Then I need you to locate this folder - your real Ad-Aware folder is "Lavasoft Ad-Aware" I don't know what this is and I don't particularly like it:

C:\WINDOWS\AD-Aware

Right-click on the whole AD-Aware folder and go to "Send to" > "Compressed(zipped) Folder" You will now have a zipped folder in your Windows folder. Go back to the UNzipped AD-Aware folder and delete it. This way if it is a legitimate folder/files there is a backup should you have problems with your Ad-Aware program.

Post a new HiJackThis log.

Everything completed as requested. Below is the log.
Also, I noticed a folder under the C drive called Shield Dropper with a Saved Key registry in it. I never noticed it before. Does one of the programs that I ran create this or is this something that should be looked into? I haven't done anything with it because I didn't want to screw up the PC again.

Please download this, by right-clicking on the link and go to "Save Target As"

http://www.silentrun...eld Dropper.vbs

Doubleclick on the CWS Shield Dropper.vbs. Click OK on the first prompt and when asked if you want to reboot, click OK.

Then you're good to go!

:tazz:

Any other questions/problems?

Congratulations your log is clean! Great job on the clean up ;)

I recommend checking the http://www.microsoft.com website periodically for critical updates to install.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Ewido Security Suite <= Protection against Trojans, Worms, Dialers, Hijackers, Spyware, and Keyloggers.

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definitely a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneAlarm.
