Hello There,

i run a scan with avg and it picked up a trojan horse of some sort by the name of DELF ( and it fixed it as far as i knew of )

BUT For some time now i have noticed a svchost.exe process running in the task manager ( ctrl+alt+del )

i though i would try look into it abit for you and i visited the CastleCops website and run a check on the svchost.exe startup program and is as follows

DriverLoad
X svchost.exe
Added by the TROJ/DELF-KR TROJAN! - NOTE - this file is placed in a C:\DriverLoad folder, and should NOT be confused with the legitimate Windows svchost.exe process, always located in the Winnt\System32 or Windows\System32 folder, and which moreover should NOT figure in Msconfig/Startup!

When i come across all this i though i would check all the other startup programs ..

thats when i come across with this one : C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe

so i run a check on wuauclt.exe , and is as follows

Microsoft ® Windows Update Service
X wuauclt.exe
Added by the HackerDefender SDBot TROJAN! ROOTKIT INFECTION Note: This is not the legitimate Windows Process located in C:\Windows\System (Win9x/Me), C:\%WINDIR%\System32 (XP/WinNT/2K) This worm\trojan is located in C:\WINDOWS\update\
Microsoft ® Windows Update Service
X wuauclt.exe
Added by an unidentified Backdoor.Ranky TROJAN! Note: This worm\trojan is located in C:\%WINDIR%\update\
Microsoft
X wuauclt.exe
Added by a variant of the Win32.Delf downloader TROJAN!

as you can see the last wuauclt.exe report states that the wuauclt.exe proccess was added by the win32.delf downloader trojan

BUT i am NOT SURE of what i must do now to delete these off my computer... i researched abit on this svchost.exe process and all i could get is as follows

Windows errors related to svchost.exe ? BUT i am not receiving any error messages....
svchost.exe is a system process belonging to the Microsoft Windows Operating System which handles processes executed from DLLs. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

Note: svchost.exe is a process registered as a backdoor vulnerability which may be installed for malicious purposes by an attacker allowing access to your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. If unaccounted for, this process should be removed immediately.

Note: svchost.exe is a process which is registered as a trojan. This Trojan allows attackers to access your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.

Note: svchost.exe is a process belonging to Microsoft Service Host Process. This could also be a stealth monitoring software that sits in the background and tracks all activities such as keyboard input (including websites visited, passwords etc.) This information can be sent to third parties through email or ftp uploads. If you did not intentionally install this program make sure you remove it to protect your privacy.

Determining whether svchost.exe is a virus or a legitimate Windows process depends on the directory location it executes or runs from

witch in my case is C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe

PLEASE HELP ME !!!

Hi Anthony

I currently have six svchost running, and the wuauclt.exe file is normal. You do have some leftovers from other infections, so lets take a closer look

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Hi anthony, I'm sorry for the delay its been a bad few days

Lets get the recovery console installed before we proceed

Go to Microsoft's website => http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994
Select the download that's appropriate for your Operating System. XP SP2

Download the file & save it as it's originally named, next to ComboFix.exe.

Now close all open windows and programs, then drag the setup package onto ComboFix.exe and drop it. Follow the prompts to start ComboFix and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Recovery Console. When complete, a log named CF_RC.txt will open. Please post the contents of that log.

Please do not reboot your machine until we have reviewed the log.

That is a heck of a system I have :) That looks good :)

Browse for and delete this file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\211.tmp

Next lets get one more check from another source

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, in the menu, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit. Please post the log with a new Hijack log

I am very Sorry for Bumping on this topic so much but JUST after Questioning you about re-booting the mechine

I attempted to run the " Dr.Web CureIt " program

I double click the icon on desktop and the program loads to Start/update > i click start and it goes to the prompt " express scan " i click ok and it goes to run the program but it comes up with dr.web scanner for windows has encountered a problem and needs to close , we are sorry for the inconvenience i click " dont send " for the error report... then it comes up with prompt about buying or 50%discount

I attempted to do this about 3 times , same thing over and over....

Thank you Once again :)

Anthony

PS: i have located and deleted the file @ C:\WINDOWS\system32\" 211.tmp "

Sorry, yes you can reboot at anytime :) guess I should have told you that

Lets try a different one

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

Thank You for Quick Response Time befor

After Re-booting the mechine i re-attempted the dr web program , and it run successfully

Here is the log

A0008874.bat;C:\System Volume Information\_restore{D5484816-F3E0-4DED-9CE1-0D4520A08C4D}\RP51;Probably BATCH.Virus;;
A0009227.bat;C:\System Volume Information\_restore{D5484816-F3E0-4DED-9CE1-0D4520A08C4D}\RP56;Probably BATCH.Virus;;

I however did NOT select and cure/move them as it did not come up with a Prompt to do so ( i am assuming by your instuctions you did not want me to select them and cure them )

Quote: Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file. ( Well , It did not ask me in term , But i was able to manually select them and cure them if you would like me to )

If need be i will re run the scan and cure them .. I just figured you wanted to view the log befor any fixing was done..

Yeah , Everything is running Fine...

I will be honest... i was just worried about doing my online banking...

Would you say i would be safe to be doing online banking ??? im not saying it would be your fault or anything if anything was to happen , but what would you suggest ??

At the moment i am running Windows Defender ( as Firewall ) Norton 360 ( as Antivirus Software ) with transaction security on , and fraud monitoring is on also...

Would you say i would be safe with that.. as i am not 100% sure anymore lol

and yeah i figured by the path that it was somthing to do with my restore points as it was in the C:\System Volume Information\_" restore" destination/location

Would you recommend me creating new re-store point and flushing all old ???

Thank You very Much For Your Patience And Time Assisting Me With My Problems

Bahh... I'm sorry again

:)

Would you say i would be safe to be doing online banking ???

Yes,

Would you say i would be safe with that.. as i am not 100% sure anymore lol

Norton is a fine product, it is a resource hog but it is a viable program. If its up to date and paid for then it should suffice. Nothing will catch everything. You could add more protection but ther is a fine line between good protection and overkill. Ultimately, one wrong click can do you in. To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein ->Here

Would you recommend me creating new re-store point and flushing all old ???

Yep, that was the next step. Follow These directions for flushing system restore

Thank You very Much For Your Patience And Time Assisting Me With My Problems

I should be thanking you. You've been nothing but patient, kind and courteous throughout this whole thread. This is a welcome recourse from what we often see on the forums. I apologize for my delays again.

Let me know of any problems

Thank You for Quote Responses , Much Appreciated

Yes Norton 360 is the paid Version , I wouldn't bother with Illegals...

I Have Flushed All Restore Points as Directed .. Even though i Done Another Method the Other day... ( same Result in the end i guess )

I done via Start> All Prog's > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore And used Disk Clean-Up to flush all old points

And Also Done the other method Via Link In Last Topic Reply By You

Computer is Running Smooth, CPU usage is the lowest its been in a while

But i think that has somthing to do with the start-up Items ive disable Via MSCONFIG ( Ones i know i dont need running EG: Scanner , and other ones i use VERY rarely.. BUT when i do need them ill start them manually )

I Dont Dis-able the ones i dont know anything about :) , as i dont know weather my system needs them .. and if i need them but not aware of it half my programs will not work lol :)

But then again .. if there not ment to be there im sure you would have had me remove them

Im sure hijacklog would have picked them up anyway... and you would have spotted them in the log

Just having a quick look back there .. Just noticed a BLANK registry entry in Start > run > type msconfig hit enter .. Is that Right ??? ... I dont think it should be there..

Ill take SS and Post in Attachment and you can see for yourself.. Probly Heard of it Beforhand though :)

And Yes , i did re-enable everything when hijacklog was created :) ( As Directed in Instruction 's Befor Posting hijack log )

So ahh Yeah , Moving Right Along :)

Only one Problem really.. Blank Entry in System Configuration Utility Via Msconfig Command

If you Could Find an Answere on that , it would be most Greatfull of you... as i personally think its a program that should not be starting up at all :) .. but then again I DONT KNOW :) just a guess...

Iam Very Impressed On The Advise I Have Already Received From You

Thank You Once Again For Your Time and Assistance

Anthony

PS: It does not bother me waiting a couple of days, to receive such valuable responses ,I Don't Understand SOME of These People :) :) :)

Hi,

Lets see if we can figure out that missing entry

Please uninstall AskTBar

Please rescan with Hijackthis and place a check next to the following entries:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {9CB65206-89C4-402c-BA80-02D8C59F9B1D} - C:\Program Files\AskTBar\SrchAstt\1.bin\A5SRCHAS.DLL
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: Dealio - {E67C74F4-A00A-4F2C-9FEC-FD9DC004A67F} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {7FEBEFE3-6B19-4349-98D2-FFB09D4B49CA} - (no file)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Uniblue RegistryBooster 2] C:\Program Files\Uniblue\RegistryBooster 2\RegistryBooster.exe /S
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winzdn32 - winzdn32.dll (file missing)

Now click "Fix Checked" and close Hijackthis

Click start, run and type cmd then press enter

copy and paste the following lines in pressing enter after each one

SC stop "windowndns"
press enter

[b]sc delete "windowndns"
press enter

Reboot and let me know if that empty entry is still there in msconfig, also post a new Hijack log.

Thanks
