Get a copy of winsockxpfix.exe before you do anything. This is just a safety
item in case you can't get on the internet afterwards. You just run it and
things should work OK after it reboots your system.

http://www.iup.edu/h...net/winfix.shtm

Also download and install ccleaner.exe from http://www.ccleaner.com. Don't let
it clean anything yet.

Now shutdown and reboot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when you see the PC
maker's logo.
Keep tapping until it tells you it is going to Safe Mode or you see the Safe
Mode menu. Select the top option.

Run HijackThis and just do a Scan only. Check then Fix
Checked the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://channels.aimt.../aimtoolbar.jsp
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://channels.aimt.../aimtoolbar.jsp
O2 - BHO: InstaFinderK - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-90F0-F66AB581A933} - C:\PROGRA~1\INSTAF~1\INSTAF~1.DLL
O2 - BHO: Helper Class - {D80C4E21-C346-4E21-8E64-20746AA20AEB} - C:\Program Files\NavExcel Search Toolbar\NavExcelBar.dll
O3 - Toolbar: AIM Search - {40D41A8B-D79B-43d7-99A7-9EE0F344C385} - C:\Program Files\AIM Toolbar\AIMBar.dll
O3 - Toolbar: NavExcel Toolbar - {5AA06644-BC46-4220-A460-47A6EB47C96D} - C:\Program Files\NavExcel Search Toolbar\NavExcelBar.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows DLL Loader] C:\WINDOWS\system32\defragfat32pi.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Windows Securety] wurguar.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [cueof.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\cueof.exe /k
O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [cueof.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\cueof.exe /k
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsear...?p=ZCXXXXXXXXUS

Wait 60 seconds and repeat the scan. Did any of the above come back? IF so
leave HijackThis up and right click on the clock and select Task Manager. Then
Processes. Find Explorer.exe, right click on it and select End Process. The
desktop will disappear but HijackThis should still be there. IF you don't see
it switch to Applications in Task Manager and highlight it there then press
Switch To or just double click on it. Check and Fix Checked the above again.
Restart Explorer by Task Manager, File, New Task(Run), explorer.exe, OK.

Now run ccleaner.exe. On the first page, uncheck everything but the two lines
that have the word Temporary in them then Run Cleaner.

Reboot into normal mode and run another HijackThis log and post it. Let's
see how we did.

Hi Ron. Ok, did all that you said to do. None of the things HJT deleted came back. But......there were several items that you said to "fix" with HJT that was NOT in the list after running the scan. Since they were not there, I have either already found and deleted them or another program did it first. Anyway, here's the new HJT log for your viewing pleasure..LOL :tazz:

You have one entry:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D80C4E21-C346-4E21-8E64-20746AA20AEB} - (no file)

from navexcel but it's inactive and judging from other posts on it you would have to do some registry editing to complete get rid of it. Not worth it I'd think.

I see you are only at SP1. Have you tried SP2? It's much more resistant to infection. http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com but it's a large file so hopefully you have a fast link. If it doesn't work for you it is not difficult to back it out.

You might also want to consider the Microsoft AntiSpy Beta. It's free from Microsoft and supposed to stay that way. It's not a cureall but it does have some nice features that prevent an infection and it is improving everyday. It might even get rid of your navexcel entry.

Morning and thanks for the fast reply. I may check the SP2 out. So does this mean my daughter's comp is in fairly good shape now? At some point not too long ago it showed her comp had the SDBOT.AMJ trojan. How can I get rid of it? Also, this comp was at a repair shop last year and the guy put AntiVir (from Germany) on it. I have not been just real pleased with the program at all. It doesn't seem to catch the major stuff or the minors. I tried deleting it but the comp keeps telling me I can't take it off. I even went thru the registry and removed the listing but it's still there. I do think I have it disabled tho 'cause it doesn't load at startup anymore. Any comments on this program? Thanks

I don't see anything wrong with your daughter's PC. Looks fine to me. You can try some of the online antivirus scans:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.asp?

to make sure. They will probably find some files but I do not see anything nasty running.

Looks like the german antivirus is no longer running even if it still takes up space on the harddrive.

And once again thanks for the speedy reply. Sounds good. I do run both those items alot on all of our comp's. Wonderful little deals to say the least. Oh and let me just add this......I made the mistake of downloading the free Panda Platinum program off the internet and running it on my comp (Windows 98) and it totally messed my system up. The free scan and fix are not a problem but please tell folks with Windows 98 NOT to download Panda Platinum. It was a problem child from the second it hit the hard drive. Thank you so very much for taking the time to help me. You geeks are the greatest and I will use this website for the rest of my natural life......THANK YOU!!!!! Dawn :tazz:

Hi again sylamore

There is more I need you to do please,

Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT
Move HJT into this folder,

Post back a fresh log when done please.

Hi Don77. Do I need to do this on daughter's comp? My comp already has HJT in it's own folder in my documents and on the C drive. Thanks
