I have trouble with this laptop being generally sluggish, having choppy video playback (from DVD and internet video also) and long load times. My father-in-law who owns this box insists that when it was new it played all videos without hesitation.
The common denominator here is that the CPU shows at or near 100% when this skipping occurs. Just now while idling it is at or near 0% so I don't think there is anything in the background causing a delay...
I have followed the procedure outlined on this forum...

AVG anti-virus skipped because Norton is already in use
Windows Update (actually done before all of these others)
And finally... Hijack this.
AVG anti-spy is the only thing that found anything. I was trying to follow the instructions but failed to save that log correctly... The only threat found was a tracking cookie called netflame and identified as a medium threat.

I partially dis-assembled the machine last night thinking there could be dust obstructing air flow but it was clean... Really it's not overheating anyway but I thought I'd try...
I would've formatted the HD already but the windows disk is hundreds of miles away at the moment...
