Hi there, thanks in advance :)

I am working through some Microsoft Update problems I've been having, here is a link to the thread if it helps. The KB page Ax238 links to in post #2 suggests that I run the Malicious Software Removal Tool and also "Use spyware-fighting software and antivirus software to scan the computer". I have run scans with AVG Anti-Spyware, Spybot S&D, Superantispyware Free, avast! anti-virus and all have come up clean. All programs were updated before scanning. I was just hoping somebody could check this log and ensure it looks clean. I have included a HJT log and an uninstall list.

I did this one using Spybot S&D :)

Hi there Troy - nothing readilly apparent so I would like to do an analysis scan to see what is what.. I am running Vista now and have not experienced the problems with updates that you are getting

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Hi Essexboy, thanks for your response :)

I have made some changes since the original HJT log was posted, I have unticked the TeaTimer option within Spybot S&D and also installed Comodo Firewall Pro instead of using the Vista firewall. Either way, I'm sure you'll pick anything up that looks out of place.

This is a good log, from what I can understand (not a lot :)). Except it tells me in red that I need to update Spybot and AVG Anti-Spyware - I'm doing it right now!

As you can see, I have titled my computer Boris the Walrus, we all know Boris... He is the walrus that lives in plumbing systems around the world, groaning at the most inopportune times (such as 2am). Anytime you hear pipes shudder, it's Boris. My computer is dedicated to the necessary work done by this exemplary walrus. © :)

Here's the two .txt files copied:

Hi there,

After just reading through the log a little more, I noticed that the Windows Firewall was turned on as well as Comodo Firewall Pro being installed and on. I have just turned the Windows Firewall off, leaving Comodo on.

Does this sound right to you?

Thanks

Yep thats OK on the firewall. I can see nothing untoward in the log

Here is the link for the MS malicious removal tool (I just tried it so it works ) http://www.microsoft...;displaylang=en

I don't feel it is a malware problem yet - so I will do a little more research and see what I come up with. We are probably looking at an error within the update system

Back soon :)

The tool came up clean :)

I'm guessing you can close this thread, then? If you find any information you can pop it into the Vista thread.

Thanks heaps for your help anyway, I really appreciate it. Now we can cross that off the list. It's funny, though, I haven't had them randomly appear since I started the original thread... :)

Such is computers!
