Hello *Anna*

Please print out these instructions or copy and paste this fix into Notepad for future reference.

1. Re-open HijackThis again, select "Do a System Scan only" and place a checkmark in the boxes before the following entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O18 - Filter hijack: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)

Close all other open windows and click on Fix checked, then exit HijackThis.

2. Please remove any programs that may not be required here, you can do this in Add or Remove Programs.

Weatherbug is Ad-supported and may well have been installed by a secondary application, If you did not intentionally install this or want an adware free alternative then please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs to remove 'Weatherbug' from your system. If you would like a similar product then please try Weather Pulse which is free from adware

Logitech Desktop Messenger displays popup messages from Logitech about new products and product updates If you wish to completely remove Logitech Desktop Manager then Go to Start | Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs.

If you just want to prevent Desktop Messenger from sending you messages, then Go to Start > Programs > Logitech, and select Desktop Messenger and Uncheck the two notifications check boxes and click Done.

3. Once you have done this please post a new HijackThis log and may I ask if you are using any Norton/Symantec products on your system and did you install PartyPoker

Thank you.

Hello Ourwilly,

I re-opened HiJackThis and removed the two items that you suggested.

I didn't remove Weatherbug, as I did download that myself to obtain local weather reports.

I did remove Logitech Desktop Messenger from my Program Files by using the Control Panel/Add Remove Programs.

I do not use any Norton/Symantec products. I used to always use Norton, but when I changed ISP months ago,
they offer a free Anti-Virus program in their package.

I did not install PartyPoker on my PC.

The problem I'm having with my PC is pages hanging. Such as, when I reboot, the Welcome screen will hang for
a long time. When I open Outlook Express, it will hang before loading. When I try to Create a New Mail, the hour
glass will spin for a minute or so before it will open a new mail. While on the web, some pages will open immediately,
others will hang.

This all started when a blue screen popped up, which I've never seen before. This screen was divided into several
sections and each section had wording in it with a Yes or No choice. I couldn't find a way to close this page, so I just
clicked on one of the sections and the page closed and then this problem began. Do you have any clue as to what
this blue page might have been?

Thanks for your help up to this point and thanks in advance for any further giudance!
I truly appreciate your help and time!

Hello *Anna*

I truly appreciate your help and time!

It's no problem at all, I'm more than happy to help :)

Please print out these instructions or copy and paste this fix into Notepad for future reference.

1. Click on: Start > Run and type in: services.msc Click "OK"

In the Services window look for Symantec Lic NetConnect service

Select/highlight and right click the entry, and choose: Properties
On the General tab, under Service Status click the Stop button
Beside: Startup Type, in the drop menu, select: Disabled
Click "Apply" then "OK"

2. Re-open HijackThis again, select "Do a System Scan only" and place a checkmark in the boxes before the following entries:

O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Symantec Lic NetConnect service (CLTNetCnService) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exe (file missing)

Close all other open windows and click on Fix checked, then exit HijackThis.

Then Right-click and select Delete on these two Bold Folders.
C:\Program Files\PartyGaming
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared

3. One thing you may wish to consider is that both SUPERAntiSpyware & AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 products are running and doing what is the same job at protecting your system, To help your system run a little better I would suggest you keep one of these and uninstall the other..

Once you have done this can you please Re-scan and post a new HijackThis log and can you let me know if you still have problems each time you reboot.

Thank you.

Hi Ourwilly,

In step 1 of your last post, when I went to the Symantec Lic NetConnect service, I wasn't able to select the
Stop button. It said that it was already stopped. I was able to select "Disable" in the drop down menu, apply and ok.

In step 2, I ran HiJackThis again, System scan only and selected both of the 09 boxes, but the 023-Service:Symantec
LIC NetConnect Service box wasn't there. My guess is that when we disabled it, that might be the reason it didn't show
up in the HiJackThis report.

I did go to my C drive, Program Files and got rid of PartyGaming, PartyPoker (which you didn't say to get rid of,
but I did anyway just for good measure) and the Common Files\Symantec Shared folders.

I also went to the Control Panel and removed SUPERAntiSpyware.

I rebooted and the Welcome page still hangs, for at least 5 minutes, maybe more.
I then opened Outlook Express and it also hung for a long while before opening.

Here is my most recent HiJackThis log.

Hello *Anna*

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode.

1. Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Open HijackThis again, select "Do a System Scan only" and place a checkmark in the boxes before the following entries:

O18 - Filter hijack: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)

Like to ask if you use protection software that Locks the homepage from changes'
or has the system administrator has put this into place, If not then have HijackThis fix this 06 line
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Close all other open windows and click on Fix checked, then exit HijackThis.

2. Stay in Safe Mode and try running System File Checker
Go to Start > Run and type in sfc /scannow ( note the space between the "c" and "/" ) and click on OK.

Once this has finished Please close down your system
Remove any unnecessary devices then boot back into Normal Mode.

3. In Normal mode go to Start > Control Panel > System, select the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
You are looking for one of the following symbols:

A black exclamation point (!) on a yellow field indicates the device is in a problem state. Note that a device that is in a problem state can be functioning.
A problem code explaining the problem is displayed for the device.
A red "X" indicates a disabled device. A disabled device is a device that is physically present in the computer and is consuming resources, but does not have a protected-mode driver loaded.
A blue "i" on a white field on a device resource in Computer properties indicates that the Use automatic settings feature is not selected for the device and that the resource was manually selected. Note that this does not indicate a problem or disabled state.

Please post a new Hijackthis log and can you let me know if any problems are listed in Device Manager.

Thank you.

Hi Ourwilly,

I booted in safe mode and chose my usual account. I opened HiJackThis and did a System Scan only.
I checked 018 - Filter hijack: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file), but that is still showing up in my new
HiJackThis scan.
I did not see 06 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present, so I wasn't
able to do anything about that.

While in safe mode, I ran the System File Checker and it didn't do anything.
So I rebooted back into normal mode and ran the System File Checker and it did a scan
and did not show any report of any kind. When the scan started, a box popped up that said
WINDOWS FILE PROTECTION - Please wait while Windows veriefies that all protected Windows files
are intact and in their original versions. Again, it didn't show any kind of report.

While in Normal mode, I did check out the Device Manager.
It showed 2 Network Adapters, the second one with a red x on it.
It was titled, Sis 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter.
I clicked on Properties and it says, "This device is disabled. (Code 22)"
I clicked on Resources - Resource Settings and it said, "This device isn't using
any resources because it is currently not enabled.

Also, when rebooting, the Window screen still hangs for a long time.

Here is my current HiJackThis log and as you can see, it is still showing
018 - Filter hijack: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file) I did tell HiJackThis to fix that, but
for some reason, it continues to show up.

Hello *Anna*

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a new HijackThis log

Thank you.
