A friend of mine described her PC as "acting up" and although I told her to visit this site for help she refuses, instead she brought her PC over to mine and I ran a hijackthis scan. Here's an example of the error messages she's been getting and the log.

Locate the following Files/Folders and delete them if they exist (if no location given, just do a search for them):

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.htm

* Click on 'Scan your PC' button. There should be a popup - if you have a pop-up blocker, make sure it's not blocking it.
* Click 'Check Now' & a pop-up window will appear.
* Enter your Country, State and E-mail Address & click 'Scan Now' - begin downloading Panda's ActiveX controls (8 MB size).
* Begin the scan by selecting My Computer.
* If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report. Ignore any entry it finds (since it wants you to buy the program for removal) as we will address this later.
* Click on see report. Then click Save report.
* Post that log in your next reply.

Download Deckard's System Scanner at http://deckard.geekstogo.com/dss.exe to your desktop.

- Close all applications and windows.
- Double-click on DSS.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
- The scan may take a minute. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - Main.txt and Extra.txt

Note: When running DSS, some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so. Also, it may happen that your Antivirus flags DSS as suspicious. Please allow the Deckard's System Scanner to run and don't let your Antivirus delete it. In this case, it may be better to temporary disable your Antivirus.

Post the main.txt and extra.txt from the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder into your next reply.

Post a new HijackThis log also when ready.

Thanks for your reply. I ran the hijack this log and fixed the items you mentioned then deleted the folders from C:\Program Files, all except MyWebSearch, when I tried to delete that I got this message:



Unfortunately I couldn't do the Panda ActiveScan because I cannot connect to the Net with her PC, that was one of the problems when she gave it to me, the PC is really really messed up although I've noticed a change in the speed since deleting the items you suggested. I've tried contacting my ISP but since the problem isn't with the modem there wasn't anything they could do for me. I just keep getting 'little or no connectivity' with her PC.

For MyWebSearch, is it not allowing you to delete it even from Safe Mode? Did you uninstall it first? Try deleting that folder again. If it still won't allow it, hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and go to the Processes tab. Look for anything that might resemble MyWebSearch and end the process. Then try deleting the folder.

You can try fixing these in HijackThis also to remove them from startup (should save more resources):

Now for the internet issue. See if this helps. Download WinsockFix at http://www.greyknigh.../WinsockFix.zip and unzip it. Then double-click on WinsockFix.exe to run it. Click on the Fix button.

Then do the following...

1. Download combofix at http://www.techsuppo...Bs/ComboFix.exe or http://download.blee...Bs/ComboFix.exe
2. Double-click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not click on combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.
