svchost.exe error? [RESOLVED]

Hello geeks to go! I am a computer science major, so know a little bit about what is going on, but every once in a while my laptop (DELL Inspiron 6000) runs slow and when I look at the processes running the CPU usage is high and I have multiple instances of svchost.exe, which I know is Microsofts, but some instances are running at very high memory levels, higher than the other programs running. Could this be a virus which named itself svchost.exe to not get caught? I have posted a hijackthis log. Please help if you can!

Did you install anything new lately before this issue began?

Since you have AVG Anti-Spyware already, uninstall the one from AOL (Anti-Spyware that is :)). It could bog down the laptop....

We can also disable a bunch of those startup programs which are not required to run at startup.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

Restart. Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.htm

* Click on 'Scan your PC' button. There should be a popup - if you have a pop-up blocker, make sure it's not blocking it.
* Click 'Check Now' & a pop-up window will appear.
* Enter your Country, State and E-mail Address & click 'Scan Now' - begin downloading Panda's ActiveX controls (8 MB size).
* Begin the scan by selecting My Computer.
* If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report. Ignore any entry it finds (since it wants you to buy the program for removal) as we will address this later.
* Click on see report. Then click Save report.
* Post that log in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

Thanks for the help! I did as you said and pasted the ActiveScan and a HijackThis log below. I also keep getting an error message everytime my computer boots up that says SSCRun.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. -- Is this a problem? Or, just somethign that will happen everytime I turn my computer on?

Delete this file:

c:\windows\ss3unstl.exe

That error you are getting is related to the AOL security software. Since you have AVG Anti-Spyware installed already, go to your Add/Remove Programs panel and remove any of the AOL Safety/Security entries found. Just uninstall them. That should fix the issue :)

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

To help prevent future spyware infections, read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
