Hey guys. hope some1 can help me out..

i got an oldish motherboard.. its a wee computer i put together just to play day of defeat and dod:s

runs ok.. but i want to upgrade the processor..

at the moment i got

ASUS P4V8X-X
p4 2.4ghz
1.25gb ram
windows xp pro
nvidia gforce 6800 ultra 256mb agp8x
and a 650watt psu

i want to add a Pentium 4 - 3.2 Ghz - Socket/SKT 478 - HT - SL7DU
* Speed: 3.2 Ghz
* Socket type: 478
* Hypter Threading support: Yes
* Bus speed: 533 Mhz
* L2 Cache size: 1 MB

now my mother board is a ASUS P4V8X-X

iv read some stuff about it but im not sure if that processor will run on my mobo..

thank you in advance if you can help me with my problem :)

mm would i also be able to install a 3.2 ghz with 800 FSB?

Hi there,

I found the ASUS webpage for that motherboard, link.

It says you are able to run up to a 3.2GHz socket 478 processor with a 533MHz FSB. So the 800MHz FSB processor is out of the options list. It looks like the processor you have described in post one is the fastest processor this motherboard can support.

Socket 478 for Intel Pentium 4/ Celeron up to 3.2 GHz+
Intel Hyper-Threading Technology ready
Supports Intel Prescott FSB 533MHz CPU

was looking round that site and found this..

look at the last one//

says
P4-3.40 GHz (800 FSB, L2 cache:1MB, rev.G1)

will work with a bios update to 1009.008

so i got to see what bios i have :)

Well good work there!

If your BIOS is an earlier release than that, an update will have you running ready for the replacement processor.
