I am making my own dvd menus in Nero 8 (vision 5, i think) using a .jpeg as the background.

The problem i have is that nero expands the image so that the full picture will not fit on the screen.

Why!? Nero 7 never did this!

Is there anyway i can change the dimensions of the image, or even just use the original size image?

Hello luckyboym,

Yes you can change the size of the image. You can use the Paint utility that comes with windows or any others. Here are a couple great free image editing tools:
Paint.NET - Free Software for Digital Photo Editing
GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

no, I meant in NERO. It doesnt matter the size of the image outside of the program. I used a large image and it zoomed toward the center. I tried a small image and it still zoomed in and left me with a highly pixelated background. The issue is NERO is causing ALL images to expand.

I found the following instructions, maybe they will help you:

Now here are some more instructions on the idea, hopefully it works this time.
1. Crop the picture to just the front cover in Paint.NET
2. Click File and click "Save As".
3. Select JPEG in the file type box.
4. Type a name like CDCoverCropped.jpg in the box and click ok.
5. Close Paint.NET
6. Open Nero Cover Designer.
7. Select the "CD Booklet" tab.
8. Click the Object menu move over Insert and click Image.
9. Click to drop the image on the page.
10. Move and resize the image to fit the size of the borders.
11. To check out how that will print click file and click print preview.
12. Now click cancel.
13. If it looked fine in the "CD Booklet" page and in print preview click file and click print.
14. Click the Elements tab.
15. Uncheck all the boxes except for "CD Booklet (2x on Normal Paper)".
16. Click Print.

Let me know if that works,

I am not making a cd booklet! I am making a background of a dvd MENU. The image is scaled up and there is no way to scale it down. It does this with all imported jpegs, but not the jpegs that come with the templates

OK, sorry I misunderstood you. You can try checking out the Nero 8 Help Files. You can then go to the Menu section and see if there is any information there. The following guide may also help:

I understand you are trying to help, but I know how to look at the help file and i found that guide before I posted. I am looking for some help from someone who actually uses nero that has either seen this problem or is familiar enough with the program that they can help me resize a background.

Luckyboym, did you ever figure out how to size a picture as a background?
I was using Nero 7 until it decided to error out each time I ran it, even after uninstalling and reinstalling.
I am faced with the same, irritating huge image, something nero 7 never did for me.
If you found a solution, I'd appreciate a response here and/or to my email.
Thanks in advance

I'm using Nero 8 as well and have the same problem. The previous versions never had this problem before and it's freaking annoying. I can only offer this as a method to counteract this problem. If you have the picture you want for the background ready, open a word document, first insert a background box make it relatively large. Fill in with the color you want that matches your picture. Then insert the picture in the center of the box, make sure it looks right. Then we hit print screen on the key board. Now open up Paint, go to edit and paste and crop the image with the background. Once you've selected the cropped area do - right click, save as. Now go to file new. Don't save previous work. Now with the new one open you can go to edit, paste again you should now have a new picture. Now we save this image to your desktop and apply the new image to nero 8 project. Hopefully this scale's down the image size to fit to the menu.

This is the best solution I've found to work but as you see it takes time to perfect.
