Hi,

I have noticed these bad boys in my internet history over the last few days. I am on an HP Tablet Laptop that my campus distributed to me last month when I transferred to this college. I am pretty surprised I concocted this backdoor trojan so fast, seeing as this PC was reset before given to me. The only thing I've downloaded since I got it is AIM. I guess I picked up the trojan somewhere in my internet surfing, although I stay on what I would consider reliable websites :/

Anyways, just wondering if it was worth it to try to have someone here help me with the cleanup process. The TechSupport lab at the college just thought running Windows Defender and Sophos Antivirus would help me out, but obviously it's not making a difference. Running the cleanup processes for this trojan would not put me at significant risk of killing the computer, right? I don't want to get in trouble with the college, but I know they are not advanced enough to give me help with this issue.
**edit: I guess I should add that I really haven't SEEN any problems with my computer due to these things. But apparently it could get worse.
Thanks

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Did the first log show anything specific out of the ordinary to you?

What exactly is the Deckard's thing supposed to do? Sorry I just want to make sure I know just what I'm downloading left and right onto the computer for this stuff...

No big deal, we can use another program. You can delete DSS if you want. :)

Go Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the following:
Java™ 6 Update 2
Java™ 6 Update 3
Viewpoint Media Player

  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
  • It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
  • If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
  • After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
  • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 Checked
    Downloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

-----------

Download ComboFix from one of the locations below, and save it to your Desktop.

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

^^^^^Is that what I have to do to delete CSS? I didn't see it under my "programs" from the Start menu, so I deleted the icon and it seems to be gone.

My roomate is warning me that I shouldn't give out too much information and shouldn't risk messing things up. He said they can just as easily reinstall Windows on the computer here for me if I back up what I need. I just am a little hesitant as to how I want to proceed from this point on.

I would advise reinstalling Windows, you'd lose everything you have on your Computer.

If you choose not to reinstall Windows, please follow my instructions above, if you do choose too, please let me know as well.

Thanks for the help so far. I may just want to check with the school before I go too far with these programs.

But with my question before...is that DSS program only removeable with the Java thing you were talking about? Or is doing the Java tweaking the next step in case I want to keep going. I deleted the DSS icon and can't find it in my programs, so it appears to be off the computer for now.

Java runs many programs, it was merely outdated and I was having you install the latest version. DSS has nothing to do with it. You can get the latest version of Java from step 3 in my instructions.

All the programs I've suggested are safe, you have nothing to worry about; the chance to school knows about them is probably next to nothing though.

A Combofix log would be nice, but if you'd prefer and wait, I'm fine with that too though, just let me know please. :)

Hi,

Yes I agree 100% that the school knows nothing about the trojan or the software needed to fix it. I just want to make sure I'm not violating some kind of Terms of Service use by going this route to try to fix what is still technically "their" computer.

Thanks alot for the offer to help. Combofix sorta scares me in that it looks like if you do it wrong it can go haywire with the computer?
